I get more and more disturbed everytime I put on my XBOX Live headset.

No matter if it's, kids singing on CoD4. (Too much American Idol?)
Older people acting like kids in Halo3.
Or babbling people on GTA who drop the N word in literally every line. Some people will just keep saying it...over and over and over.

It worries me that these people live among us. Even in my most juvenille of days, would I ever go out of my way to annoy people. It's really not that funny, it's not so much these idiots, but the people who rip on them that actually make me laugh. I'm jealous of the Wii(No voice chat), I wish headsets could only be used in friend matches...

If I were in these peoples shoes in their real life, I'd be embarrassed to ever open my mouth. I'd almost be willing to admit that the steretoyping of the people who play GTA games is almost right on...

So...what do you think? Is it getting out of hand?

:::This is a discussion thread, not a GTA thread, please don't lock it. I'll keep my hopes low though.:::
And PS this isn't a little kids are annoying thread, Age has nothing to do with it. It's more on the subject of Maturity, and I've seen 8 year olds more mature than some of the older people on Xbox Live.

I feel the same way, in fact up until a couple of weeks ago I refused to play multiplayer across live. Since GTA4 came with a free month I thought I'd give it a go though. It's pretty fun, but the community was crap.... Then I found a 21+ community (AGE). They're some pretty cool people that like to talk trash, but at least are mature about it. In fact, it's GTA 4 night for us.......Time to pour a drink and jump in!

i actuallywouldn'tplay online if i wasn't using a headset. it's what makes the experience of playing online. i really cant talk about the loud mouths, because, i am one :( lol (8% preferred). usually i have fun annoying people on cod4 with my clan or by myself, it's fun to see how other people react and start ish up. if you're that annoyed you can simply unplug the headset and play! it's that simple, and use it only with friends. i like to hear other loud mouths and people singing and whatnot lol., it's funny as f*.

Trash talking is one thing. That's fun and very acceptable.

I'm talking more about the ignorant comments and the stupid antics people use.

I'm all for some trash talk...that's what the Mics are for.

It can be funny sometimes. However most of the time it's annoying. Although I'm happy for the ol' mute function.. I can't tell you how many people I've muted in my few months of XBL...

I don't think all of those morons are like that in the outside world. People feel free to say what they want because they never have to see any of these people face to face. This is why I don't use the headset when playing with strangers. I hate hearing kids cursing and others using the N word and degrading every minority. Next Gen they need to come up with a better/faster way of muting. I want to be able to mute these people right away in matchmaking with the simple push of the A button.

I didn't really enjoy my online experience either until I joined a union here and collectively the variety of people is astoundingly refreshing. Hence making any online experience, indeed a great, enjoyable one. Even if we are matched up with the types of people you speak of in your post, it seems to be more humorous than annoying these days.

Bottom-line...is that your online experience is determined by the people you game with in conjunction with your tolerance or intolerance of what you deem appropriate whilst online. If you are having issues with the rantings, mindless rambling, and intellectually un-sound individuals you find in matchmaking lobby's, then my advice would be to seek out fellow gamers that fit your criteria to enhance your Live experience. :D

MS should really regulate what's said over online. I mean sometimes it gets out of hand, like little kids screaming at the top of their lungs or otherwise, people make crazy racist jokes that aren't meant to be funny and it gets out of hand.

I don't think it's entirely fair to say that the stereotypical GTA player is a racist, foul mouthed, irritating person. I'm a huge fan of the GTA series and I exhibit none of those traits. You can find those types of people in every game that's available online, with the exception of some MMOs. COD4 has its share of them. So does Gears of War. That's actually the reason why I stopped playing Gears online. Too many people calling me a N0ob and other racist, derogetory names. I don't play to be the all-star MVP. I play to have fun. Who cares if we lose. It's a game. I think a lot of people lose sight of that. If all you have to look forward to in your day is screaming hateful things at strangers online, then you have some serious, serious issues that a certified mental healthcare professional should be addressing.

Totally Agree.

Not to point the finger either, but as a European player, in my experience this behavior is ONLY perpetrated by American game players. I really mean only too. And I play on Xbox live frequently and have never heard senseless abuse or self-commentating from european players. It honestly gives off a horrible impression of the core gamer population of your country.

random senseless abuse. Not even clever or witty. just ignorant.

because i've noticed that most european players are scared to get made fun of when they're playing against americans. i'm talking made fun of because of the accent. notnecessarilybecause i do it, but because i've seen it as well. given the fact too that americans speak english more fluidly, european players are intimidated by this. not saying you guys are scared or anything, but rather preventing confrontations online because of this.

Most of the people that act that way online do so because they know they can get away with it. There is literally no consequences or repricussions for being a flaming moron or absolute douche online. Not only in XBL but all over the internet as well. This allows people to do and say whatever is on their mind without worrying about being punished in any way shape or form. Tell any kid that they can do whatever they want and nothing will happen to them and what will they do? Most likely they'll do everything they've ever been told not to do or have been frowned upon for doing before. It's absolute freedom, absolute anarchy.

Granted in some of the more well moderated places, these rude and immature people are dealt with by being banned from that site. On XBL it's a bit different. It takes a TON of negative feedback and a TON of negative reports filed against a gamer for anything to happen to them. My best advice it to just mute those who are bothering you, and find a different group of people to play with. I myself play with a pretty laid back group of all different ages who are mostly mature....mostly...but we're men, so I don't think we're quite capable of ever reaching full maturity in our life times. LOL

...and what if they are just joking with you. If you seen my earlier post I like acting like an idiot on Live and I usually only tease the people who talk funny. I don't try to hurt their feelings. Maybe everyone else is like that too.

in the real world they'd be instantly (and reasonably) beaten for their actions. they only do this because they're behind the alias of a name online. mute them, submit a complaint, and be on your way.

Heh, I love it when a 14-year old gets p***ed at me cause my mic is off, and u get to hear the voice break as he cusses me out over and over and over. People complain alot calling me a retard cause my mic is off, THIS is the reason, who has the energy really for all that negative smack talk? These ppl are so insecure and pathetic it's not even funny... and yet I can't help but laugh each time it happens, kinda sad.. kinda scary... COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS!

I know you're basing this off your experience, but trust me, I've run into A LOT of loudmouth, racist jerks from England, France, Mexico and a few other countries. I'm American and I respect everyone I play with and when I run into these types of people I usually ignore, mute, leave the room and post negative feedback. I don't need to spit the same hate as them. If just shows, as you said, how ignorant they are.

To be completely honest, Austrailians are among the best people to play with online in my opinion. They have very good sportsmanship and really great manners. I have a few of them on my friends list and I play with them regularly.

You obviously haven't played any french ppl, apparently everyone that speaks english is an american pig, lol. I'm also european, and I've been unlucky enough to run across idiots from pretty much everywhere around the globe. I do think however the americans do have the majority of these peple. I'm not gonna speculate further on that as to why that is but it's very true. Sadly, only game I seem to be able to find sensible american players on is GTA IV... strangely :S

Good theory, and in most cases it's probably true. It's really stupid though, I mean how can you judge us by your standards when you've been speaking the language your whole life? I've been speaking english for 6 years now, and I'm doing a pretty good job with it so far. And I have 4 languages to keep track of, so how is that worthy of making fun of? Most of those ppl probably only speak english, and some are even doing a terrible job with that.

Wow this is all news to me about these unions.. I totally missed that. Can anyone give me links or something to join these. I understand how you feel I do not play online because of these "Kids". I love playing online but like you said when you hear all these words being thrown around it is just to much. In the last 4 months I have not played much online at all. I know i am missing out but it bugs me and I end up spending a good time of the match yelling at someone to shut up because they are screaming the Pokemon theme song into the mic (yes that happened). If anyone can give me info on these groups for people who are serious and don't allow the kids I will be very grateful.

i prefer to have the option to talking/listening to people on XBLive... rather than the Nintendo way which gives you no choice at all. Why is not having a choice more preferable to having one?

The internet or XBL or whatever brings with anonymity, and with that comes the ability to be the biggest a$$hole in the world without fear of reprocussions. Think about what you could/would do in real life if you were guaranteed to not get in trouble for doing it. That's what XBL gives people a taste of on a small scale.

There are a few exceptions*, though for the most part the immaturity is not a disease XBL carries; it is human nature, unfortunatly.

*Like in COD4 (hardcore modes) telling your whole team that you have a cool glitch to show them and then when they all gather around you pull a grenade pin. :D Gets 'em every time!

I wish headsets could only be used in friend matches...

Mau-Justice

If you go to your settings you can make it so that you can only hear your friends through your headset, and only your friends can hear you. I did that for a while...it has it's perks but you're less likely to make anymore friends that way.

I'm fairly certain it's the anonymity that does it to people. In person I'm sure they'd never be like that.
