I'm an idiot and I accidentally scratched off the confirmation code while scratching off the silvery stuff on a Xbox Marketplace 1600 point card.
I feel really stupid about it, but I couldn't be the only one. I really hated all the silvery grime residue when I scratched it off with my thumb, and it made sense at the time to use the blade of a pair scissors since that's what I used to open up the indestructible blister pack.
I had a bad feeling when I called Microsoft and they sort of confirmed what I feared. Apparently, even though they're a software/tech company, there's no recourse, and I have to go back to the retailer. I'm pretty sure I'm SOL. It's as useless to the retailer as it is to me.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and I raised the issue of just getting a "run-around" if they'll going to send me back to the retailer, and he said he'll look into some more and get back to me. I think it was just a way to get me off the phone.
I just find it really strange, that each card doesn't have a serial number of some sort whereby the confirmation code can be retrieved. I think they do in fact, the series of numbers right beside the confirmation number. Isn't that distinct for each card?
Has anyone else heard of or encountered a similar problem? I'm hoping that I just didn't scratch away $20, but I wouldn't be surprised.
