Like Crackdown? Dont see it.
This game requires patience and an attention to detail. It is not a run and gun kind of game. There are so many subtle things going on around you its easy to get lost in the game. I already have 3 hours in the game and have yet to do my first assassination. Just taking in the sites, looking for flags, viewpoints, saving citizens etc.

in crackdown you have to kill certain targets, you collect orbs instead of flags, you can jump from roof top to rooftop, and if i remember correctly the enemies also have an alert system in crackdown...the setting of each game is obviously way different though

You are reaching...
You kill certain targets but its not assassination through espionage and stealth, its from full frontal attack.
Orbs actually advance your character making you more powerful with each orb you collect, it doesnt appear the flags do this.
You can jump from rooftop to rooftop, but the wall scaling mechanism and the way you traverse rooftops, totally different.
Nah, two very different games.

I played 7 hours straight today. I'll my review up over the weekend, so feel free to track me.
So far, the game feels a little repetitive, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's awesome overall. My review will have more details.

Agreed. I'm loving this game.
if you like crackdown, it is kind of like that except you have swords instead of guns, the graphics are better, and the setting of game isobviously WAYdifferent...but the vertical freedom you have in crackdown is just like the vertical freedom you have in assassins creed.darkghost75
That's odd, I was making a similar comparison to myself while playing earlier. Some buildings (I just climbed a castle in Acre) are very similar to the complex climbing paths you had to take in later Crackdown areas. I really enjoy it.
As a whole, the game seems very good so far. Granted I'm only 4 missions in, but I can't really see my opinion of it changing. You just get these cool moments that make you want to keep playing. For instance, I was running one time in Masyaf (home town) and ran towards a cliff thinking it would be a short drop. I wasn't really paying attention and actually hit a Leap of Faith marker without me knowing it and dropped off the side of a huge cliff. It was awesome. Or those times when you are roof running and a guard is just turning towards you when BAM, you jump at him and drive a blade into his skull. Very cool stuff here.
I think the Penny Arcade commentary today and the IGN AU review both hit it pretty well explaining both the game and the circumstances revolving around the few bad reviews. Would this game get monotonous if you had to play it on a deadline and were thus trying to beat it as quickly as possible? Yes, by all means. It's the fact that you can explore, free-run around the city, do little side jobs (like free the citizens), etc that breaks up that monotony. I think it's actually fairly well balanced.
Take a look at IGN's review, and then Gamespot's review. One thing I noticed was:
In the IGN review, the player only stood there and waiting for the opponents to attack him. He didn't risk anything to pull out an attack, other than a counter. Gamespot's reviewer, however, was much more aggresive, which possibly could've been why he thought the combat was awesome, and the IGN reviewer thought it was bad.
So I guess it depends on how you play the game.
It does kind of start out slow, but it is an amazing game.
I think it does matter how you play it... ive been aggressive, and a badass the whole time and it is awesome. I would probably be bored too if I sat back and let everything come to me.
