Ok, SO... I'm looking into getting a 360. I've been around these boards reading about all the crap people go through with the 3 rings and all that junk... I'm prepared to deal with it if it happens I guess. I do have a couple of questions for you guys though.

1) I have a19 inchCitizen TV made in like 1995. Willl the games look like absolute junk on this TV? If so...

2) How do they look on non-HD TVs made recently? ie. LCD or whatever. What kinds of TVs do these things look good on that won't cost me a fortune?

3) Has anyone determined that the new processors are actually better? I read about the Falcon, but I haven't heard anything since.

4) Is the elite worth it? Do I seriously need a 120GB hard drive in the thing? I won't be putting music and thatkind of crap on it, that's what my computer and sound system is for.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help. I've been reading posts and you've already helped a lot, I just need these specific questions answered, and EB games is run by jerkoffs that don't even say hello when you walk in the door, so... f-that.

The games will look fine on your old TV, but they look markedly better on HDTVs. I currently have an old one just like you, but a little bit bigger, and I'm completely satisfied with it. If you have the cash, I say go for it, but you'll be better off waiting for a good deal to come along before buying an HDTV. The Elite is definitely worth it since some stores bundle it with Forza 2 and Marvel: UA. Even if you don't put music on your Xbox you'll probably be downloading demos, XBLA games, and Xbox originals, not to mention movies and TV shows. I got my premium system back in Summer '06 and am constantly deleting stuff to make room for new downloads.

I bought the pro and several games. I figure I will add a 120 gig drive if I need room in the future.

That's what I originally planned on doing, but it is cheaper to get an Elite ($450) than to get a Premium ($300?) and a 120GB hard drive ($180?). Especially worth it if you want the black :D

So the graphics don't look all blocky and stuff on an SD tv? I know how clear they are on an HDTV, but... that's probably not in the cards for a while yet.

Only real image issue I have on a SDTV is that all the text is incredibly small. I think the Elite is worth it for the HD and the cable (the HDMI cable alone makes it worth it since, let's face it, you'll be getting an HDTV sometime). The whole RROD thing is getting better as they get their manufacturing cleaned up. The Falcon is really just about running cooler, doesn't really seem to affect gameplay.

theres a huge difference in tv's, i didn't believe it until someone posted screens, i don't have the links tho. but basically it's like comparing a computer game on 800x600 resoltuion to 1600x1200, and i'm not exagerating, it really is half the resolution from standard to hd. now the cheap way, bc i didnt want to go buy a hd tv, is i use my new lcd monitor with a 40 dollar hd cord. and i get hd on my new monitor! which was 300 bucks for a 22 inch, as opposed to thousands if it was a tv that size.

i don't think you need an elite. but then again i don't download demos and crap all the time, or buy games over the market place. you really don't need them unless you plan on owning like 200 games with extra content and videos and music, etc.

I play on a standard 28" Sony TV (10 years old)... looks alright.

No you don't need a 120GB hardrive. Its a waste of money. I use my 360 to play games... not to play music and download movies and all that other useless crap.

1. The games will all look very good on your TV. It wont make any difference at all compared to a brand new CRT TV.

2. They look pretty much the same as a video game on your PC assuming your PC has a CRT or LCD monitor. The games will look all very nice on any TV but HDTV's are the best. (They do cost a lot).

3. The new processors aren't exactly "better". They just use less power and do not overheat as easily which will lengthen the life of your Xbox.

4. IMO, the elite isn't worth it. Unless you plan on downloading tons of demo's, music, and movies onto your system without deleting anything you should stick to the normal system.

Well I can safely say after switching from a standard TV to a Sony HDTV and playing at 720p, it looks SO much better. I'm not kidding. I would say the $1000+ for an HDTV just for 360 is not worth it, but it definetely makes a graphical difference when you make the change
