are the ultra moves in street fighter iv impossible?

ive been trying on challenge mode for hours to get at least one ultra combo with numerous players and no luck...

is there any knack to it?

(also i am using a controller rather than an arcade stick thing)

:/ its still not working, do you have to time the combo or do you have to just do it as quick as possible? we have tried it with nearly every fighter and still no luck... i can see me losing a controller and some windows because of this game :/

All you have to do to do the ultras is the same as the super moves. The only difference is that you press all 3 punch buttons (light, medium and hard) instead of one punch button (or all 3 kick buttons instead of a single kick button if the move takes kick input)

I just played at a friends house on saturday night. I had never really played a street fighter game for longer than a few hours and that night still leaves me in that category.

But amazingly I found myself rocking lives on XBL and I managed to do some of those Ultra Special Cool moves (or whatever theyre called).

It could have been due to the fact that my friend owns two of those 140$ arcade controllers and those things were definatley an advantage while up against anybody without one, as they made the more difficult moves feel as easy as 1,2,3... and yes ABC.

I have maybe ten minute playtime with SF4. I haven't picked it up, gave it a quick play at a freinds. I am terrible. But it would also be my first street fighter game seeing as I avoid the fighting game genre most of the time. I made an exception is SC4, I liked that game until I eventually traded it in out of boredom. I suppose the same will happen with SF4. Online play on a fighter is worthless to me. It never works right. You just get overcompetitive players arguing over rosters and talking about how big their E-peen is. I can live without that.

They're actually easy when you get used to them. Go into training mode and turn on "input data" to see if you're missing a direction.

I can pull all of them off with ease, though I can imagine it being harder with a 360 controller (the d-pad to be more precise) as I have the game for PS3.

Since you've been trying for so long, I assume you're pressing the right buttons, and in the right sequence. If it's something like Ryu's or Ken's, I always find it easier on the right side (facing left). Try that.

cheers for all the help guys, we actually figured out about half an hour ago that you can use the all buttons instead of trying to bash the individual buttons in time, we are hacking it now!

nice one

Funny. I had the exact same problem until I found the answer on the internet. The in-game move list isn't clear about pressing all punch/kick buttons.

Glad you got it to work.

innit! its obv juat because the game is available on two platforms and to save time changing the command list's buttons. makes the game well hard to understand too, also, how small do the commands have to be when they appear on the challenge mode??? its rediculous

did not know about that option cheers, im struggling with ryu finding it hard to make the move with the analogue stick and then pressing the 3 punch button at the end with the same hand , feels weird. pullin it off more by fluke then at will at the moment but that trainin mode tip will hopefully help me refine it

To make it easier, put your two remaining buttons set to either 3 punche buttons or 3 kick buttons. And press those to execute a Ultra. It works everytime when you do it right and makes life easier. Of course, the disadvantage is you'll have to press MP + MK for Focus attacks instead of one button, but you have to pick and choose what you want to use more.

Also, I think he maybe talking about certain character's ultra moves like Zangief who has double circle motions and Guile, Vega, etc., who have funky charge, back-crouch, foward, back again, and diagonal up maneuvers. They can be a little tricky. But it's not impossible. The controls are really fine tuned so you should be able to do it. Just do it fast.
