I'm looking for honest opinions. I have never owned an Xbox before. I have a PS3 and a gaming PC. I've played almost all the good multi-platform games on my PS3. Also played Mass Effect 1 & 2, and Left for Dead on PC. So basically my choice of games to buy on the 360 seems rather limited. But I've heard a lot of good things about Halo. My question: is it worth spending $300+ just for Halo 3, ODST and Reach? Also, do I need a paid gold membership to play Halo online on Xbox live? Thanks in advance.

I'm not into Halo but I own a 360 for L4D1&2 so what does that tell you? Watch reviews and decide for yourself because every Halo fan will tell you it's well worth it. Make your own decision, it never hurts if you have the extra cash and want it bad enough though so I say go for it. Also, yes, you will need LIVE Gold to play Halo online.

I would. :) Also, yes, you need to to pay to play online. But it's worth it.

halo reach be the perfect game to start off with a xbox. i wouldn't buy halo 3 and odst unless you want the story. reach is where fun is

i been buying xbox because of halo... not kidding. after like month halo 1 was out i played it, i pushed my mother buy me a xbox. then i droped my xbox down stairs... and when halo 2 came out i bought other xbox. i owned two games(battlefield) for 3 years lol for xbox and played it till halo 3 bought my 360. and if something happen to my xbox 360 i get one for reach.

i ride my own bandwagon i don't like halo because of anyone. i think people is crazy when they only buy games because of hype

reach trumps halo 3 mp and reminds me of how fun halo 2 was back when online gaming was the new thing

if you get xbox make sure you get a hard drive not the 4gb or arcade's... i promise you regret it. and yes you need xbox live gold for 99% of games online

I'd do a little research before buying. Just to make sure that it's something you REALLY want. I originally bought my 360 just so I could play Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Buy it for more than Halo, like, Gears of War. Those are great games as well. Also, when you have both PS3 and 360 you can pick up the version of the game that is better, that way you don't have to deal with broken versions that have frame rate or graphical issues.

You should research 360 exclusives you might want and weigh in on whether to get a 360 or not.

You should buy XBOX 360 so you can post in this forum.:D

Other than that: buy the XBOX 360 because there are a lot of games (exclusive or not) that look, play and generaly ARE better on the 360. Plus, you can never go wrong with investing in Microsoft, i figure. They "use" your money in the best possible way.;)

If it's the only game you're interested in playing on the 360, I wouldn't.

Do some research first. I would never buy a console just for one game. Check out other 360 exclusives - if you find yourself interested, then purchase the console. I admit, I did buy my PS3 for MLB the Show, but it didn't hurt that they have awesome exclusives.

It's a tough call really. Reach is a stellar game but that alone I wouldn't buy an Xbox for. Now Gears of War 3 is looking very good too and Kinect might be worthwhile down the road (might). For a few of those reasons I'd think about it and starting off with Reach is a great way to start off.

I think the old xbox 360's are $150 if your only getting reach it's all you should need.

I'm buying one, not for Halo, but for Gears 3. I would have never bought a new one though, if they never redeisgned it. I'm very sick of my 360 breaking all the time

Personally, I wouldn't buy a console just for one game, especially on the cusp of all the hype that one game is receiving.

Now, I say personally because I did this with the Nintendo Wii when Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out. And within 3 months I sold the Wii. I just wasn't compelled to play anything after I was finished with SMG 2. The Wii has some great exclusives, this I know, but between my Xbox 360 and PC it was hard for me to make time for the Wii.

I'm getting my gaming fill with my PC and Xbox 360, so I would carefully think about whether or not you "need" another console and look past the hype of one game, if you can.

If you want an Xbox, then get it. Reach is prompting you to buy one, but that doesn't mean that it has to be the only game that you ever buy. I don't have to tell you that there are plenty of other games worth buying.

Yes, I bought the Limited Edition Reach 360 consoles....just cause it was that awesome, and I needed an upgrade.

Again...He is prompted to buy an Xbox because of Reach. What's so crazy about that. It's the biggest ever launch for Xbox. But that doesn't mean it's the one and only game he'll ever get for the console. I'm going to take a stab and say that you aren't a fan, but that doesn't make him crazy. I used to be a PS2 guy, but I bought the original Xbox because of Halo CE. And you know what? I bought several other games for the old Xbox as well.

I thought he meant that there are other games, that are better, and are exclusive to XBOX, so the owner of the topic should buy XBOX 360 just so he plays those "other" exclusive.

If that's the case, then somebody else would show up and say:"You are crazy! Why are you buying XBOX for Gears (for example). There are better exclusives like Halo...":D

I guess the bottom line is: If you have the money, if you are financialy stable and not acting on the pure emotions then buy the XBOX...

Well I've always thought buying a console just becuause you're interested in one game is daft. If I bought a PS3 I'd make sure there were enough exclusives that I would enjoy.

You only get your moneys worth from Reach if you're playing it online all the time. And when you know that the price of XBL has increased it's going to be costly.

Before you blow hundreds of dollars to play one game, find out if you can just rent a console or maybe play at a LAN center in your town. It simply isn't worth it's own console if you aren't a Halo fan.

I loooove Halo. But I have to say not for halo alone. Banjo Kazooie Series, Shadow Complex, Perfect Dark, PGR series, DOA series, Fable Series (the 2nd isn't on pc,) Gears of War Series are only some games worth playing on the Xbox. There are also some backwards compatible Xbox titles, a great one for example is Conker: Live and Reloaded. There are some good games non-backwards compatible such as Otogi 1 and 2. $300 +$50 for live, and you will probably get 3 extra controllers so $40x3=$120. So, that amounts to $470 just to get everything out of Multiplayer.

^This Halo: Reach is a really fun game, but I would never pay $300 plus the price of gold membership just to play it. If you get a 360, get it for more then just Halo.

Yeah, why not? Round it out a bit. You may even find that you end up playing the 360 more than the Ps3, XboxLive is pretty awesome.

No, you shouldn't be buying any console if you are only buying one game for it. But i think you should still get one, their are still some great exclusives which you can't get on the PS3 or PC. And yes, as it has already been answered you do need to pay to play your games online. But it's worth every penny, Xbox live is the best thing yet :D

Potentially. The Halo series has alot of value and there are plenty of other great 360 games to play. But I don't feel like you blaming me for you buying something you may not like.

try to find five games that you want only on 360. that way it justifies the investment (60x5= 300) thats the only way i could convince my gf to get the new xbox.

halo reach

gears 3

fable 3

alan wake (great game)

splinter cell maybe??

the top 3 justify a purchase in my opinion, those games are the only ones you would need, multiplats are just filler =].

its worth it, i sold my ps3 after getting an xbox.
