I am thinking of calling MS and telling them that my 360 is acting up. Its not, its working fine.

I dont want in 4 years for the thing to crap out on me just when the warranty expires. Since they have discovered a fix for it, I might as well get it fixed for free and not have to worry about when my 360 will die.

has anyone done this?

I am thinking about doing the same thing... I have a 360 from the faulty production run, I just haven't played it for more than an hour yet.

Do they apply the fixes to every 360 they take in for repair?

Do they do diagnostics or stress tests on your 360 when you send it in? I dont want to send mine in and be out of a console for 6 weeks just to have it sent back because they couldn't find anything to fix and don't install the new heatsinks and fixes as a standard practice.

Perhaps I should just play the thing hours on end until I get the RROD, then send it in?

Just call them and tell them that it freezes up at random times and sometimes when you put games in it doesnt load them.

Most likely they will fix it properly so you dont have to send it back. I doubt they do tests. they most likely get hundreds a day and apply the new fix to all of them and ship em back.

Last night i called xbox last night and i asked them if my 360 (circle scratching discs) which is past my 1 year warrenty, would be covered under the new 3 year warrenty....nope i would have had to pay like $99 i think... but what im going to do is either play it like nonstop and pray for the red lights...or like wait a week and just say i got the red lights

I hope it works!

Thats the problem with the 3 year warranty thing. They just need to issue a recall. The rest of us who havent had a problem yet are gonna be like scared dogs in a thunderstorm, anxiously waiting for our systems to break. Then wondering what might happen if it goes past 3 years. Then what? Will it still be covered, or will we get screwed?

I'd be happy if my console lasted over three years and then broke. Thats not too bad and 100 bucks to fix it isnt that bad of a deal. Here's my thinking

if you get past the 3 year warranty with your console then thats great........if it breaks after that its time to get the new 360 model "Falcon" that we know is goign to be coming out and will have the defect taken out of it.

while thats is true, The issue here is that Microsoft knoes there is a problem, a defect, and I should not be responsible for it 3 months from now, 3 years from now or 10 years from now.

So does Microsoft really check to see if your console is broken when you send it in? I can't imagine them wasting that much time (time=$$$) when all they have to do is apply the hotfix they recently discovered.

I doubt they will just be doing "the fix" on every 360 received, the need to confirm something is wrong mainly because 360s will get sent in for other reasons and then they are not covered for free. Sending it in now is stupid, the failure rate is not at 100%, it is not a guarentee that every console will die, whiel they all have the defect that can cause this, there is a good chance it will work fine for a long time, just enjoy the console.

I think I'm just going to stress-test my console over the weekend. Play GeOW for as long as possible in a single session. If my console doesn't break from a 10hr GeOW session, it probably won't break from anything else I'll subject it to in the rest of its lifespan.

I would do it when the amount of repairs die down. It takes 6 weeks to get your console back. I'm guessing withing a few months
