i never played them, and i was thinking of getting them before halo 3 comes out so i can better understand whats happening

should i get them? are they still fun? also havent played an fps in a while...

Sure go right away, even if you don't plan for online play. It's fun to play co-op with Halo.

I cant believe you are asking this question yes these games are great. They wont be old 10 years from now tons of fun and still people online (Halo 2) and the first has a great story that will help you understand the 3rd. Get them now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

you should by those right now without hesitation. both excellent games, and you could probably get them pretty cheap used seeing as there old. also if all u plan on doing is playing through the single player to learn the story, i suggest you just rent them, because thats not just cause to buy a game imo.
