I played through the first Gears of War game a little while back and thought it was "eh". I didn't think it was bad but I didn't think there was anything special about the game either (I could only chainsaw Locusts for so long until I get bored of it). And after playing Uncharted the movement felt so clunky to me moving to cover and moving in general. After seeing how positivly Gears 3 is being received I was wondering whether I should give the series another chance and pick up the 2nd game. Does it imprve on some of the issues I had with the first or no?

On an unrelated note, does anyone know where I can pick up a cheap wireless network adapter for the 360?

Wel it sounds like you just don' like the Gameplay in Gears. So you probably shouldn't get it. Though the game's not even out yet, so we'll see. :P

The gameplay was okay to me. It just didn't feel groundbreakingly awesome as it was hyped up to be back in 06' (maybe it didn't age well to me?). I would like to try the second game to see if I like it better than the first kind of like with Assassin's Creed (didn't like the first game but the second game and it's sequels do appeal to me). Another thing I should note is that I played co-op online with a buddy during my first playthrough and he told me the story wasn't worth paying attention to (and from what I had played at that point I believed it). Does the story get better with the second game or is it more of the same?

Trust me, if you didn't like Gears 1, you will not like Gears 2. It was worse in almost every way possible. Though Horde mode is a blast, but you'lll be lucky to get past round 10 without Getting kicked from the game due to Server disconnection. Though Gears 3 is including Dedicated Servers, so that's a plus.

Hmm, sounds like the same case I had when GTA4 came out. Well I'll probably give it a rent to see if my opinion of it changes or not but from the sounds of things it won't. Well, thanks anyway.

Well it won't hurt for me to give it a rent just in case. If I don't like it then no harm done.

I dont think there's much difference between the 1st and the 2nd...and if you did play it a short while back, you need to put in mind that its a launch game that would seem very outdated now. The 3rd though is looking really cool, and i think you should give THAT one a chance and spare yourself the disappointment you'll receive from the 2nd.

yeah go ahead def no harm there but if others have mentioned its sounds like you just dont like gears and while it has gotten better with each release the core game is still the same so dont go in expecting a miraculous transformation.

If you didn't like gears 1 at the time it probably isn't for you. It was one of the best and most revolutionary cover based shooters of the time with some of the best gameplay any console game has ever offered. You might as well pick gears 3, but you wont necessarily be as overwhelmed as series fans are with it.

Never got people who couldnt enjoy Gears, but c'est la vie. Gears 2 was legendarily woeful online though due to servers. However, Gears + dedicated servers = YES!!!

If you don't like the first one then do not bother.

I know what you're problem is: the movement. I'll admit, I almost hated the character movement in Gears 1. The animations to jump over cover took ages. Everything moved very slowly in cover. As for Gears 2, the cover mechanic was iomproved, but they slowed down the character movement.Still a very good game. The mp was so so. However, with Gears 3, everything flows very well. The character movement feels just right, and jumping over cover doesn't take 9 seconds (jk lol). Seriously though, every game deserves a second chance. I hate Fallout 3 at first, loved it the second time. I really do think you will like Gears 3. Most people who hate Gears have only played the first one. The others are so much better in every way. But if you're skeptical, just rent it first.
