Should I play CoD 4 on Veteran?

Well, I'm getting CoD 4 soon, and I heard that it's quite short and that people comfortable with FPS's should be able to blast through it pretty quickly at the Normal difficulty.

That why I'm wondering if I should do it on Veteran on the first play through, so I'd like comments on whether this is a good idea.

Also, is it harder than R6V on Realistic?
