I plan on getting a 360 Elite for my Bday but I was told by some to wait and was advised to look this
http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/07/06/xbox.360.warranty.ap/index.html?iref=newssearchNormally I wait for around a year or so to avoid any problems that occured near launch but it seems that they are not entirely fixed. I don't own a single next gen system (and after the release of all three, the 360 seems to be the best...ignoring the problems of course) and I can't wait to finally own one at last, but I don't want to be having any problems or get frustrated with it. I also noticed the article didn't specify which systems were having the problems (I'm hoping the Elites are problem-free...). So I'm just asking for other opinions if now's the time to get one. As I said i really want one, but don't want to deal with problems....but I also don't want to at last own the system when rumors of the next generation systems are already spreading. Thanks! :-)

Buy now. Microsoft says they have fixed the problems with the 360 failure which is why they extended the warranty to 3 years. There are already a ton of great games for the 360 and still a bunch more to come (Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect).

nah not much reason to wait anymore. its well passed its release so buying it now is a good choice. where as buying a ps3 now would be a waste of money due to the lack of games

3 YEAR warranty is unheard of and VERY good. MS has improved the system on these matters as said in the recent article. I say go for it and BTW your chances are not that great to get defective hardware.. if so the system wouldnt be around.

The problem of an xbox 360 failing on you is virtually a non-issue now that Microsoft has invoked a 3 year warranty, which is unheard of for a console. So plain and simple, your console will be fixed for you free of charge.

Secondly, you may want to wait until E3 (this Tuesday) to see if there is a price drop coming. If nothing is mentioned, buy one now. If they announce a price drop in the next few months you may want to wait, that's your choice.

Why wait? There are a ton of games out now and in the near future. And if you're worried about it breaking MS has extended the warranty so you'll be fine.

you'll get a 3 year warranty but the console it self is by no means fixed. its still very prone to overheating which results in a warped motherboard, which then results in a broken system. every time I turn my new one on I hold my breath...

I'd get one now too. A three year warranty is insane and not everyone has had problems. I've had mine since launch and haven't had even the slightest problem with it (knock on wood). There's a ton of great games to play no matter what you like and you have the pleace of mind of getting a 3 year warranty on top of it. You really can't go wrong.

The 360 is a little noisy because of the disk drive, but trust me you get used to it in a couple of days. MS new 3 year warranty covers the 3 red lights, so if it does happen to you, don't worry!

Dude, if you are getting the Elite, then don't worry about it. I haven't heard problems with elite so I'd say you're good to go. Many problems are coming from regular systems built in Decenber last year due to them missing a tsst drive or whatever that protects the games from the hardrive's disk reading lense or somethin. I'm sure that the elite won't have the same problems as the other 360's. Oh and when you get it, try out Hitman: Blood Money. Only $30(maybe $40) and it's a terrific game.

Yeah... I'm glad microsoft extended the warranty but from what I heard they still haven't fixed the problem. I've heard reports of 360s having to be returned to microsoft multiple times because and that Microsoft simply returns a refurbished Xbox 360 with the defects still. Just hoping someone could clarify this...

I own a Elite with a MFG Date of 04/20/2007, and to me it seems a little quiter and cooler the my premium. I would say buy one, it now has the 3 year ring of death warranty. No problems with mine so far. ;)

What I'm about to bring up is something I discussed on pm with some people from the site. And they told me to ask the store for this type of info. Yet I still want to bring it up to get more opinions.

I realize that Microsoft will fix it free of charge. But my fear is will the store you buy it from for example Bestbuy.

Will they void the 2 year warranty we buy from them if we send our system to microsoft? Because if Microsoft decides to send us a refurbished system. Then the id number on the machine will be different, and what if we have problems later resulting from something else. Won't that void the warranty from Bestbuy because it's possible Microsoft will send a refurbished system? I ambetting Best buy will check the id number on the 360. And if it doesn't match then we might be in trouble.

Also does this 3 year warranty still go into play if we were to experience this same problem again in the future?

I don't care about the warranty. The point is I don't want to have to deal with Microsoft. Especially considering since most people have to send to Microsoft more than once and reports of Microsoft sending refurbished 360s that are still defective. I also don't want to feel obligated to have to buy a warranty at a store. I mean I paid so much for the system, why should I have to pay more because it might be defective? I just want to know if the problems on the other 360s are fixed on the Elite.

Wait until after any E3 announcements are made to buy. If they end up making any announcements, like price drops or the inclusion of 65nm chips, it would be advantageous to wait for them(if they are reasonably soon).

I'm not a hardware expert but the65nm chip is basically a smaller chip. The 360 currently uses a 90nm chip. The smaller the chip, the lower energy usage it will require, therefore it will theoretically emit less heat. Less heat hopefully results in a more reliable, less prone to overheating and internal damage console. Just Google it if you want more info, but basically it will make the whole unit run more reliably and less prone to failure.
