I'm hoping(please god...) to get a 360 for my birthday in late july and I was wondering if I should use my TV or a monitor with it?

My TV is only 51cm(20 inch:() but the monitor I'll be using is only around 19-20 inches too plus I'd need to buy the VGA connection. So is it worth paying the extra money to run it on the monitor? I'm not really that fussy over picture quality so if it's small I won't care but if it's a "holy crap that looks way better!" type thing I will.

Also if I did hook it upto my monitor does the VGA cable let me plug in speakers too?

Oh and finally again if I used my monitor what type of res would I need for it to run ok? It isn't a widescreen but does it need one like 720 or will it work fine on most monitors?

P.S Just a side question. I'm thinking of getting the forza 2 bundle so is the game worth getting or should I stick with something else?

Thanks. :)

yeah its worth it my sdtv is 22-24 inches and my monitor is 19in so i use the monitor and its a whole lot better but u have to be close to it cuz if you like 10 ft. away every thing is to small :p the only problem is if u want to use your computer u have to keep switching bettween cables but its still worth it

I'm going to get a VGA cable so I can use my monitor. An SDTV is fine, but some games just weren't made for it, as is reflected in the auality. On Dead Rising, for instance, the character's speech was written entirely with HDTV in mind. On my TV it's nearly illegible. Games which go for the dark atmospheric look (e.g. Condemned) are more difficult to distinguish features on aswell.

Here's a helpful article I found on hooking your Xbox up to your monitor. Link!

Monitor will look MUCH better...SDTV will only give you 480i/p...monitors will give you a MUCH higher resolution and make more use out of the 360's higher resolution capabilities. Does your monitor have multiple inputs? If so, see if you can use one type of input for the comp, and the other for the 360.

I have mine hooked up to a 24" widescreen monitor...it has several connection options, including dvi and vga...I use vga for 360, and dvi for my comp..Switching b/w the two is as simple as pressing a button...see if you can do that. Have fun w/ your new 360

Not really...most CRT monitors that I know of have a 4:3 aspect ratio, though, so must make sure you 360 is set up properly to account for that. I'm not sure if CRT monitors have DVI inputs, either, so you may be stuck w/ switching out teh actual vga connections in that case (unless the crt has other inputs like component)...

I found this article on Xbox.com, which seems to suggest you could. (link!) As long as it's a fairly good monitor which can handle high resolutions - e.g. 1280x1024. Or you could get a new LCD monitor. The prices will have dropped a bit since that IGn article was written.

Not if you put in a lot of effort. Instead of sitting at home for a couple hours doing nothin, use that time to hand out resumes, make some calls, look in the local newspaper, etc..

I do have other things to buy/pay. If you do nothing but save up $2500 isn't that hard to get(couple of months) but when you're buying other things too it isn't that easy as putting in an extra couple of hours.

Thanks but I won't be using this monitor, it's only 17" and not that great...I'm looking for a good cheap 20"+ one.

By the way I just wondered. Do you have to have the monitor hooked upto the PC as well or can you use one like a tv except it only plays the 360?

As long as the monitor is plugged in and everything, you'll be able to connect it straight to your 360. It'd actually be more troublesome to have it hooked up to the PC as well as your 360, as you wouldn't be able to use both simultaneously. Oh, and here's a fairly low priced LCD 20" monitor, although it still breaks the $200 mark: LINK!
