***I'm sure this topic's been done to death***

I really want to own an XBox and I'm aware of the risks and rewards, but should I wait until the bugs are fixed. I've been reading that the fall editions will be improved so I was planning on waiting until then. My main problem is the overheating issue because I can play for many consecutive hours. There are two things I don't want to do:

1. Deal with customer service after 8 or so months and

2. Buy and install fans on my own because I'm not that techy

What should I do guys? Wait for better models or get one NOW.

Buy one now with extended warranty or wait, it's up to you really. Extended warranty, you don't need to care if it breaks (but still take good care of it). Just keep the system and power brick well ventilated and plug it straight into the wall and you should be fine. Just make sure you don't lay it on the carpet either.

I'm scared my self, well all I can tell you is to do what I did with the other consoles wait for them to be close death and then buy them. They will fully updated and read to go and you won't have to worry about any defects and you can do the same with the next Generation Xbox.

Does anyone know for sure if there will be improved Xbox's in fall? (Better cooling, etc) I can't remember where I saw this so it's probably bogus.

More than likely yes the 65nm CPU should help because if possible it may decrease hardware failure but I'm not for sure, plus not many people are willing to wait for this but this is the only hope I have of over coming my fear of buying a Xbox 360 otherwise I will wait tell the Xbox 360 is on its last leg before I buy it and by than I should have every thing I need as fare as games are conserned.

Just keep it in a well ventilated area and you will be fine. I say get it now. Why miss out on the awesome games already out for the 360.

i was thinking of waiting for the new chips, but you're going to have to wait real long. even if they come out in fall and you buy a 360 then, you'll probably still get the older chip because the stores would have a lot of them to try to sell first..

i broke down and bought one a few weeks ago.. i feel pretty safe with the warranty. waswaiting for a price drop and new chips, but thought screw it, i already have a lot of catching up to do with games. (and there are many ones i'm looking forward to later this year)

most of the hardware failure is due to over heating.. *duh* and 99.9% of the time its fixed by adding thermal paste. i'm on my third box and the warranty for this one died out some months ago.. and behold i got the ROD. so, i opened it up, took out the gpu and cpu, replaced the paste *which is poorly placed to begin with to be honest :-/* and vuala, no more rings :) i could leave it on for days. hope this helps.

i wouldn't wait, i'd go ahead and get one. just be sure to get the warranty. :)

i am getting one next month no matter what, b/c they said the newchips were coming out mid 07 (now) and then fall and i even heard possibly toward the end of fall into early holiday seasons!

i think there is a problem with them getting the materials form Singapore or something like that, not sure.

Thanks for the info fazio. I think I'll be able to hold out and I'll get the games when they're cheaper too.
