Should MS upgrade firmware for game use on HD-DVD disc

Should MS update the firmware to be able to use the HD-DVD drive for games? I know MS can do this just that they wont it would nice plus if they can give a rebate or lower the drives cost.

if it was as simple as a firmware upgrade they would im thinking this isnt the case.

and theres no need when most games are 1080i compatible

i bought the hd-dvd, so that's a yes but yeah i will feel ripped off if they give them out for free.

its never going to happen, it would force people to buy the HD-DVD drive, so  unless they make it free, its not going to happen

yea Microsoft isn't like Sega who released a bunch of add ons you need to play certain games for on the Genesis.

That's the exact comparison I was going to make. Look how well that worked out for Sega.

they should issue a firmware update that makes the drive be able to be in some position where it doesnt look damn ugly.

I think it's a little late for that. If they wanted to do that, the HD-DVD should have been built in. That said, I wouldn't be against dual releases (similar to PC games) with two versions, one standard version and one HD-DVD version with extra features. It would help sell the drives while not utterly dicking over the consumers. Of course I realize this would increase production costs for the game companies, but it's a thought.
