When both of these consoles came out, people where so excited that people were getting murdered:twisted:. I personally dont want to spend another 500$ for a console. I think that Microsoft and Sony should just keep what they have now and not make any new consoles for long long time. What do you think.

Totally agree. For this kind of money you should have a less repair prone console and a 3 year warranty

No, technology is continuilly advancing and I'll be one of the first to buy the next generation console. Games have a long way to go yet, and there will be dozens more consoles in our lifetime.

I think there should be another console after X360, PS3 and the Wii ('cause lets face it, even tho its not a HD-capable machine, its still pretty cool!). Why limit ourselves as a society as to what we can achieve? I know you don't want to drop another $500 on a another system, (I honestly JUST bought my 360 because I got a really good deal through a local classified ad) but that doesn't mean that others won't, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to improve what we already have. When the original Xbox came out it was suppose to replace consoles for at least 5 years. Xbox 360 was revealed only 3.5 years after that (I might be wrong on exact timeframe but I hope you see my point). Technology is ever expanding, and just because we think we've reached our capacity, doesn't mean we should shut ourselves out to what the future may hold.

I think that MS should come up with a new version of the 360, per se.

It'd be fitted with blu-ray, the problems would be fixed, the power would be toned up and that's it. Almost like a new SKU. Not a totally new console for devs to try and figure out.

I think a new console should come in like 2012 or something, or longer.

well should car companies stop making cars and say people should just use the cars that are out there now? Well that will never happen with new technology making them better and not mentioning the money they will gain. Same thing with the console there will be new technology making the console way better then the previous and they still want to make money.

Of course there should be another console! we were stupid enough to freeze technological advances for 500 years of the dark ages! limiting ourselves on what can be achieved through human ingenuity is a step backwards! imagine where we could be now!! technology is developing faster and faster! its exciting to think what could come next!!

the sooner the better i say!

i am actually a little annoyed by this passive hippy topic!

Well, there will of course be a new console, but I'm hoping they don't announce one until 2012. I need to get the most out of my 360, but watch a new one be announced at this year or next year's E3.

Well, the current consoles even the PS 3 are not powerful enough to last. The real problem is that the additional power isn't enough to validate a new console. Both the 360 and PS 3 have minimal RAM in comparison to the power of their processors. Either console could of uped a few specs and been future proof for 15 or more years ,but both skimped on dumb stuff to save a few bucks so we are stuck with games lagging, and freezing up, and we've yet to see a very massive game. Sorry, both consoles kind of made a 5 year console. No matter how good games get we will be sick of them by then. I never thouht I would think last gen looked ugly......but once you see the top of the mountain....

Technology always forges ahead of the software industry. However, Microsoft has had it's problems with the Xbox 360 and has lost some of its reliability among us consumers. There is a lot of room for MS to regain consumer convince. A new, more reliable console with blue-ray capability just for starters. No more RROD and a larger harddrive this new time around with backward compatibility. Software developers can always adjust to the changes in modern technologies just give them a reliable console to write their programs to. It could only mean better and more reliable gaming for us.

Hopefully whatever the next Xbox is it better have working backwards compatibility and be a reliable long lasting system. I'm the type of person who still plays PSone games and I can do that because for starters the Playstation 2&3 have been backwards compatible and my Playstation I bought 10 years ago still works perfectly. I can hardly expect the same of my 360. Considering 360's have been having life spans numbering in the months for alot of people I doubt an older model like mine at least to last untill some random day in 2015 when I feel like bustin out some Mass Effect or GTAIV.

This console life cycle will be no different from any other. I'd expect the first of the next generation of consoles to be released just before Christmas of 2010, 2011 at the latest.

I think they should let the 360 last maybe 8 years and take their time to make the best console they can next generation instead of rushing it out.

Like every product the consoles grow, mature and then the last stage is the decline. All three console producers will need a new product to gain interest, grow and mature. It's a cycle that can't be broken unless the consoles become exactly like pcs with upgradable parts etc etc. That'll never happen anyway.

Well that depends on what EA has in store for us. I personally hope there will be just one console in the future.

i've heard that both the ps3 and 360 have agreed to a 10 year plan for each console, so that neither company would release a new system until after those 10 years. I might be wrong though, and they didn't mention nintendo. Who knows what they're capable of.

On one side it's going to happen whether you or I want it to or not. It's the way it's always been and always will be. Technology advances and they make new products to showcase it.

On the other side, I'd have been happy if they stopped with the snes. It's not like games have really gotten any more fun since the early consoles. They have just changed in the way of how people get there fun.

I have all the consoles up to the current generation (ie 360) and I play my DS about 50 times more than any of my consoles. Why? because it's simple fun and that's what I play games for in the first place.

I wish they'de stop and just make the most solid product they could over years and years of refinement but it's just not going to happen. They will continue to create new systems with new problems and just when they get them refined to the point of showing true potential they'll move on to another system. It's just the way it is.

There should be a new console after 360, but make it last longer than the 1st xbox. 2012 is a good year.

I second that. I would like to see one console in the future as well. It makes sense, developers do not have deal with exclusivity rights, porting, developing for multiple consoles with different architecture (I.E. PS3 to 360). It also eliminates fanboyism which is is a huge black mark on the face of gaming community.

Someone would counter the this with the argument for competition, but that doesn't really seem to be an issue when you break down console wars. It has never been about who can build the better gaming machine but gaining exclusives two generations in a row the Playstation had the weakest hardware but come out on top both gens. If there was only one console the only competition left is the only competition that is needed who can develop the better game.

If this were to ever come true the only way it would happen is if the major console manufacturers would have to co-develop it. I highly doubt that one console would ever be able to shut out the others completely.

E3 '09 we'll probably hear announcmentes of future consoels to come... at least from MS, as for Sony, they wanted a 10 year cycle, so MS could force them to release early or be a generation behind.

not what im talking about here. Cars can definetly evolve more and more, but these systems are just fine where they are. I dont know how you can get much better.

There shouldn't be cos these two consoles are the buddies of our lifes. If another console comes out anytime, wats the use of having these 2 consoles? Like spending 700 dollars on a console for 4 years? It should be more than 10 yrs or so.
