Is it really worth??Or is it just a rip off??

For less than 5 dollars a month, I don't think anyone in their right mind would call it a ripoff.ethanpaige
I'm just asking your opinions I personally don't think it's a rip off at all!!
I'll just go back to my PC and play the exact same games (well with better graphics) against anyone in the world for free. What should I go and play? Maybe some Gears of War, or Halo 2, maybe some UT 3 and all for free.-Sphere-
What costs more an xbox 360 with $50 live or upgrading your pc to make all the newer games look great? Every few years too so i doubt a pc would be cheaper.
People say things like this alot.
PS3 fans say things like this alot. "We can play online for free, but you can't."
But, what few people realize, for like, 4 bucks a month, we get excellent service, (almost) no down time, amazing replayability on our video games, and maintence and updates that wouldn't be possible without this small fee.
For the thousands--maybe millions--of xbl subscribers, Microsoft makes a fortune from these $4 a month. Of course the vast majority goes to paying workers, but alot of it goes to making our experience better.
Something Sony can't do.

Totally absolutely right!!
Its worth every penny.
Ive had xbox live for 5 years now and there has only been one problem in all of those 5+ years (the xmas this year was the only bad time ive experienced, where there was some problems).
I cant stand the sony online, so much so that i had to sell my ps3 lol... for consoles xbox live >>>>>
:)
Xbox Live is totally worth it, particulary in the Xbox 360 era. There are so many features. I consider the $50 for live to be well spent.
In fairness, I haven't tried sony's version of live. But as in most things I would suspect its a case of you get what you pay for.
Should we? YES, it supports MS and it keeps the service great, fast, enforced and the constant updates. It also filters out some of those little kids, not most but definetely some.
Do we want to pay? NO, nobody wants to pay for anything but you get what you pay for.
Is it too much? Well you can buy a 13 month card online for $40, so that comes out at less than $3 a month, thats pennies a day. Thats like a meal a month that you pay for great service.
Is it worth it? IMO yes.
you can also get the card from buy.com for $43

How many of you have actually tried the PSN? I haven't, but I'm just curious if any of you know for a fact that Live is a million times better or are just saying so because you pay for it.
I honestly don't know... what I can say is I'm not too happy with Live, and I don't really feel like I'm getting my money's worth. All I want to do is play some games online, yet even though I'm paying for this service I'm getting matched up with laggy hosts 75% of the time. Most of the online shooters that the 360 is known for depend on a good connection.... if you've got a poor connection you're going to get your ass kicked. Hell, even if you have a decent connection and are fighting someone with a full connection the odds are against you.
If these PC games can mainatin dedicated servers for $5 a month, why can't a huge corporation with cash coming out it's wazoo do it? Hell, for $50 a year they could at least give us an XBL marketplace movie rental for free every month... or a handful of maps for a game when they come out.... or TV show downloads.
If M$ maintained dedicated servers I would feel like I was getting more than my money's worth.... but I really don't feel like I'm getting squat for my money. Sure, the XBL marketplace is cool... but you still have to pay for everything. What is the $50 going towards? What am I really getting that I can't get for free on PSN? This is an honest question... because I don't know. What makes PSN so horrible? People with the PS3 don't seem to complain much.
I have highspeed internet, so naturally I never get laggy connections.
Basically, if you enjoy the content on the marketplace (which is ALOT of stuff) and you have games that are a BLAST to play online *cough*PhantasyStarUniverse*cough*
Then you're definately getting your money's worth.
As far as I -KNOW- (and heard), Xbox Live has much more to offer than PSN. (Not meaning to bash on PSN here)
In my opinion, the Xbox 360 is king of online gaming.

Having high-speed internet doesn't mean a thing. If the host has a laggy connection, you do. If the host is in Australia or London and you're in Baltimore, you have a laggy connection. I have high-speed internet too. I'm running my Xbox directly into the router, not wireless... I still rarely get a "FULL" connection. Usually I get 3/4 (or is it 4/5?) bars... but not a full connection. At times it's much worse.
As I said previously, the conent on the marketplace is almost entirely a pay-to-download system. Your $50 a year isn't covering any of those downloads (except for promotional items like demos, which I believe PSN offers too, and gamerpics for new games being released... basically things they are giving you to help advertise for games or shows).
Again, as "far as you've heard"... as far as I've heard also, but I just don't know if the Live online is $50 better than the PSN online. Of course Live is known to be the best, but for what reasons, and how much better is it, exatcly? I just seem to see a lot of fanboys saying either "Live is SOOOOOO much better it's worth teh $50!" or "Yeah, well PSN is free!!" but what's really the big difference? As I said, to me $50 a year is enough for me to be playing on dedicated servers... which isn't the case.
As I've said before, XBL and PSN's problems are what keep many hardcore gamers firmly rooted to the PC as the platform of choice- sure it doesn't always cost as little as an X-Box or PS3, (AT ALL.) but you're almost guaranteed the ability to play a game without seeing 'HOST ENDED GAME' or the dreaded 'CONNECTION LOST.' messages.....besides, user generated content and Mods are prevalent for PC games.....what has the 360 and PS3 got.....theme packs? That we have to PAY for?! Give me more levels anyday! :)
Is X-Box Live worth £40 (UK Sterling, not dollars- a fair amount more than you Americans get to pay.) a year? I'm going to say a pretty emphatic 'no.' Why? Because Microsoft make ridiculous amounts of money every year in each field of their product spectrum, they make money on the games we buy at £40 each ($70-80 Roughly) they make money on consoles, Marketplace and other computing applications; yet they don't meet the demand for X-Box Live Gold constantly which is evident in the fact that every day there are connection and Gameplay issues to do with XBL as a service. There is nothing more frustrating than paying for a service only to use that service and be told that your Connection was Lost, or 'Host Ended Game' 2 minutes into it.I have no doubts that PSN probably suffers the same problems, however, as a user of PS2's connection for a few years playing Resident Evil: Outbreak 2, I didn't have too much of a problem with the service itself. (As it happens, only a problem with Capcom for terminating the Servers when the video game was sold on the premise that it was an online game.) In saying that, that may not be an accurate reflection of PSN considering the fact that it is a very upgraded service to the one I once used.
I'm also left somewhat underwhelmed by the amount of players we usually get per game.....on PSN the maximum is between 16, 32 or 64 players- XBL, a service we all pay for can only really support 18 - 24 from the games I've seen so-far. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we supposed to be using the stronger service?
Yes, I agree that it's a small amount to pay a year, however for that money we should be dominating PSN and we should be recieving a service comparable to PC services- services I remind you that are free and subsidised by the game manufacturers on the sales of their games.....but anyway; I find it strange that I can play Team Fortress 2 over Steam completely free and with strong servers that offer smooth competitive gameplay after buying the CD Key, but we have to pay annually for a service that usually fails to deliver stable server activity, smooth gameplay and most importantly in terms of enjoyment a good Localised Matchmaking service that pits us up with people with similar connections. No offense to you Americans out there, you're hilarious at times to play with and very vocal, however, when my connection is at 2/4 bars with a direct Internet Connection, there is something not quite right there. I'd rather be able to join games on a server list by Location, so that I can match myself to people in Europe, rather than have my connection skewed across the world. (No offense to anyone, if it wasn't so damn stat based it wouldn't matter so much.)PC users on the otherhand get more choice when joining games (Not to mention the ability to host games Locally, rather than relying on ONE COMPANY and their dedicated servers.) they get more choice and downloads for their games, they pay less for their games and definately get the better options when it comes to multiplayer. In all I guess it all just comes down to the usual 'Who do you support' argument; we have X-Box fans talking about XBL being awesome, we'll have PSN defenders talking it up, and we'll have PC afficionados advocating the PC as being dominant in terms of quality. One thing is for sure, regardless of what is the better service, there's no winning this argument, because we'll always have three fanboy sides bashing one another in all arguments of the Console (Gaming) war.
If the PSN would upgrade and add the ability to add friends from within game (to play with), and make voice chat mandatory the for me the 2 systems would be on par. I personally like the server layout better for choosing my games when I play.
But also don't mind spending the $50 a year for LIVE.You really do get what you pay for,
While PSN is nice, I find connecting to a game of say, Warhawk at peak hours can be a hassle.
I also wish I could have access to my friends list while playing another game,
The cross game invites that Live offers are missed within PSN, and I like the cross game chat feature of Live.
It really comes down to if five bucks a month is worth it for those features or not?
