I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I have both games and I think that Gears needs more skills than Halo 2. Halo is just a simple run and gun kind of game, there is a little skill involved but you don't usually use it (well in my case at least). Gears however requires you to think more tactically as you have to take cover, take different vantage points and co-ordinate attacks with your team mates. Due to this I think Gears requires more tactics but I may be wrong as I'm not very good at Halo 2.

The gears shotgun killed all the skill in halo you have to pick it up and not everyone is trying to blow eachother away up close so in halo you have to actually be good since most people use BR and headshoot you without aiming the whole time where as in gears people just run up to eachother and fire away or chainsaw. When I play gears im pretty good since I dont play it much anymore but when I play halo I get owned completely.
There would be more of an arguement for Gears if the game were more solid. I think as of now the multiplayer is too full of problems (glitches, host connections, etc.). Hopefully updates will make them a bit more comparable, but it's not really about overall skill in my opinion, just skill at certain things. The multiplayer for the two games is different, and certain people are just better at aspects of each game.
im sorry but i just dont understand why people are still talking about this game...are people still gonna be talking about gears when halo 3 come out..i highly doubt it, so lets just drop it. Halo 2 is a last gen game and imo shouldnt even be compared to gears. the only think similar is that you shoot people..
I believe that Gears does take more skill(which isn't necessarily bad). Though it is an easy game to get the hang of, the transition from knowing how to play to being awsome takes a lot more time that Halo 2.

ok so you think because the ridiculous auto aim in halo2 that basically guides your shots takes more skill than gears? all of the weapons are super easy to use in halo2 the sniper is ridiculous..no skill involved what so ever. i havent played halo2 in atleast 6 months and i just started picking it up a few days ago i started playing with the sniper and i noticed how easy it was to get headshots because of auto aim.

The thing is they both are difficult in diffrent ways. I cant play Halo2 to save my life. Its all about how much you play. I own in GoW because I play alot. Every game takes skill. Just because your good in ranked doesent mean your good. Ranked is a bunch of noobs. Goto a clan website like gamebattles and play some good people.

Well said. I just started playing Halo 2 live yesterday (Let the ridicule comence, yes I know Im very late on it) since the Halo 3 beta starts in a little over a week.
Then how come when I leave Halo 2 for a while then come back I still get on the top of the stats every game, but when I leave Gears for a while and come back I suck for a few?
I love Halo, but it is VERY easy. I have played Halo 2 since the first day it came out, and I still enjoy it from time to time. But it is very simple. I mean come on, the game practically aims for you!

what games are you getting into? after the first update every gears game i played in just involved everyone running up on each other with shotguns. gears requires no skill if you completely ignore the core mechanic, which it seems everyone is doing.

Halo is much faster and takes more reflexes then Gears. Gears is slower paced and has more strategy because of that. Personally I don't see much of a difference between the two in terms of difficulty to pick up and get the hang of online. Maybe a slight advantage to Gears because of the auto aim in Halo 2. Just shows how great of a multiplayer game that Halo 2 is that still gets brought up on these boards so much after so much time has passed and a new console has even been released.
you mean you actually have to run up to the person youve just downed an finish them off manually before they revive themselves instead of just shooting them till they die in halo 2? (Warzone mode is moot, who plays warzone anymore?)

if by redifned gaming you mean you got tricked into thinking dual wielding was something new, and that online multilayer was somehtng new, then i feel sorry for you. The only thing Halo2 rediefined was dissapointment.

It did what? I'm a fan of both games, although I stopped playing Halo 2 when I got my 360...I get graphical artifacts when playing it on my 360. Halo 2 was a great game, but it in no way redefined gaming. It didn't bring anything new to the table, that no one else had already thought of.
As far as technical multiplayer goes halo 2 redifened it in many ways.Voice over ip in halo 2 is by far ahead of many multiplayer games(Talking through headset has never been more funner then what halo 2 has to offer).Second the party system is something very unique in which i feel every game should have up to this point.Third the map layouts are well balanced for multiplayer action.Howver I feel halo is by far superior to halo 2 but with the competition today halo 2 defintaly stands strong to many titles.
