I went through 2 of them already. All of my guest controllers just use regular AAs since they're not ALWAYS used. But my controller's gone through 2 rechargeable battery packs. I'm sick of buying these, guess I'm just going to start using regular rechargeable AAs since I have them all around the house.

Would that be more economically efficient and offers relatively the same battery performance?

Well how long did those 2 batteries last. I have had one rechargable battery back last me over a year now. Just don't put them on the charger until they are very close to dead or dead already.

This is why I use a wired controller - no problems with batteries (plus I sit about 6 feet from the TV). I guess you could always buy something like this if you wanted.

I just have 2 pairs of AA batteries.

When one runs out, I just put it to charge and use the other pair.

you can't just use the play and charge adapter thing to 'make' the controller wired and have it work that way?

That is probably what he is doing. The problem with that is then your battery pack is always being charged so it will wear out quickly.

Actually it's weird. Each pack last me 3 months or so. I always have a few days of gaps of playing. For some reason the packs would not hold a charge for very long. When I turn them off on Monday, I'd get no charge on them by Friday when I turn them on again. So I just plug them in with the charge kit and charge them while I play. Gradually they just stop taking a charge period. Now when I attempt to charge the packs, the light don't even come on.

Stop trying to charge them constantly. That wears them down. Just charge them and then use them until they are dead and charge them again. If your charger is not charging them very well then it sounds like you need a new one. Also you do know that the plug and play cord will charge them while the system is off right.

I take it your advice then is to play the rechagable until it's dead then use AAs until you're done then plug the controller and pack back up when you shut it off to charge it? Or is it okay to use the controller until the battery pack dies, and then after it's dead plug the cord up and keep playing with the pack? I'm just asking since my buddy convinced me I needed one of these things when before I was just going to use AAs.

These 360 battery packs are actually the most dependable rechargable batteries I've ever used. They work great. Are you sure yours are official 360 packs?

As long as you don't do anything to abuse them, such as overcharging or anything like that, these batteries are meant to last for years. Mine have been going strong for almost a year now.

If you are going to use the plug and play kit I would only plug it into the controller when the battery is dead.

I would suggest getting a battery charger kit though. With that you can have one or two batteries charged at all times so if one goes out you just have to change it.

Don't get me wrong. My initial post is not to dismiss the MS battery pack. It's an excellent product and while it worked, it worked well. Please stick to my original post, I meant to ask if it would offer the same type of experience with regular rechargeable AAs. I have a lot of things around the house that would use AAs or AAAs and this would potentially save me more money if I can just use the same batteries for everything.

I've got a similar problem with mine. It's lasted me for quite a while but now my controller works for like, 3 minutes before it just turns off with no charge. Plug them in to charge and the light goes green after just a few minutes and then the pack dies just as quickly. I only charge them when they're actually dead and the controllers turned itself off. I tried keeping them connected to see if that would do anything but just the same. It was brilliant at first but now i just use regular batteries.

Yea, I've had mine since 06, no problems whatsoever. Still getting quite a bit of playtime before needing to recharge, too.

Yeah, I've had 2 of them since launch and had no problems, then got 2 more when I got my Elite, no problems there either. Just be smart about charging them and stay knowledgable about battery life and they'll last you a long time!

no you dont need AA's at all, just dont charge the pad until the battery meter is dead or almost dead at the very least. then when its charging you can still play with it on the wire. or u can just leave it charging over night. pointless buying batterys and using the pack but i can confirm the packs are wearing out because you charge them before they are empty. the pad will flash early when it gets half way though to let you know its running out, dont charge them wait longer till the last bar at the least if u want to max out the life of it

see I use battery packs and I don't chare them unless they are almost dead, and I also have a Plug and Play charger so I use that when they are almost dead until they are fully charged again. I suggest doing that. I mean my rechargeable packs have lasted me over 2 years

Unfortunately, recargeable batteries are the best way to go. They die after awhile so they need to be replaced. I had mine for 4 years and now it's time for a new one.

I paid an extra ten bucks to buy the battery pack with the controller pack in. Sad to say, I'm quite disappointed with it. Every where I read on the internet says I should be able to just plug the USB port into any old computer and it will charge, but it will not. I have to plug it into the xbox to charge and I hate leaving the xbox on because of overheating issues. Everytime I charge the thing, it will charge it for maybe 45 minutes, says it's got a full charge but I will play it for an hour or two and the charge goes dead. I finally gave up and am using rechargeables. As long as you use NIckel Cd rechargeables, each charge lasts me 2-3 months (I play maybe at most 1-2 hours a day).

Wireless is cool, but I'm going back to my wired controllers once these batteries run out (which are lasting longer than I expected)

I just have 4 rechargeable bateries and a charger that connects to the wall that my parents forgot about. Works like a charm, and longer than the Msoft batteries.

I had the same problems with the battery pack of my black controller, but I changed them for rechargable batteries and now I charge them every 2 or 3 weeks instead of 2 or 3 days, some batteries are faulty I think.

I have 2 rechargeable battery packs & they work perfectly. I've had them ever since they released the charger stand which was a long time ago. They still hold a charge for a long time, not sure why your having such an ordeal with something as great as these.
