whats the difference between a silver and a gold xbox live membership? is one free?what are the things u cant do with silver but can do with gold?

Basically you can't play online with a silver account. Gold is $50 a year, both you can download demos, trailers, etc.

TM1 basically said it. Recently, however, M$ has changed it so silver users get downloads of demos 1 week after gold users.
