I just got a 360 and I have to say i'm already dissapointed. I went to set up my 360 and found that it doesn't have an optical cable out. Currently I have my PS3 hooked up to my projector Via HDMI for video, and optical cable to my home theater system for audio. I can't just run my HDMI through the home theater system (for some reason it doesn't work that way), so my question is can the Xbox 360 simultaneously output from the HDMI and the component cable? and if so how do you set it that way.

you can use the HDMI port and the optical port on the component jack (they don't fit but you can make it work by taking off the plastic on the connector). Or you could spend $50 and get a smaller jack with the optical out on it.

wait, i dont get it. my 360 (component not hdmi), has an optical port right on the cable where you have to plug it in to the 360. (its actually on it) so the hdmi ones dont have it? or what?

Nope. No optical out, just a slot for the component cable set and an HDMI port.

I found it. It's pretty stupid that it's on the cable set instead of right on the console. oh well. I'll have to check and see if it works while using the HDMI for video.

Is there a reason why you can't just use component, and not use HDMI at all? That way it will all run through a single port on the back of the 360 rather than trying to get component and HDMI to work at the same time

I use a 25' hdmi cable to my projector and the xbox component cables are only around 6 feet long.
