I played the demo of SKATE, and wow. It was a return to the first time i played THPS when a funky control scheme that i had no idea how to master made it all the mre pleaseurable. Now not to brag but im a tony hawk vet who owns every game (except american wasteland) and can rack up a 5million+ combo whenever i want, however i have to say im much more excited about SKATE than i am about the 2 new features were going to end up getting in tony hawk.
The Tony HAwk series has monopolized the extreme sports games industry for almost 8 years, i think its time for some competition!

Good Lawdy. I just think Skate is worth the chance. It's indeed different and can corner it's own side of the market especially if EA can continue with the franchise. I remember Grind Session on the PSOne received a AAA score, but Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 showed.
But unlike Grind Session(which is a good game), Skate is just a breath of fresh air in terms of creating something new. The control scheme is interesting in itself. Still can't believe Blackbox and EA pulled it off. Even though this was one of my highly anticipated games next to the PSP import Crisis Core, Final Fantasy VII for the year I wasn't sure how it would rate.
But the young skater kids hanging around my local Sears Grand retail store have been talking about the Skate demo all month.
I let one of my friends play the demo, he's what the Tony Hawk games would call a hardcore skater, he generally skates anywhere from 3-5 hours a day. Often walks around without a shirt, huge dreadlocks, the whole deal. He now wants a 360 just for SKATE because he had so much damn fun with the demo. He'd seen Oblivion, The Darkness, Bioshock, Dead Rising, and still didn't want one. He nailed a trick that he had landed earlier that day in real life, and woke up the neighbours.

AH!!! c'mon...... booyah, counter that why dont ya. lol...we'll see. i enjoy seeing altered forms of sports (can you say mario) cause its funny and freakin hilarious the creativity some devs have.
Lets be honest the worst part about Skate is that it is made by EA and 8 years down the road they will be doing the same exact thing that THPS games have been doing... but that doesn't make this one not worth buying. It will have to be a year to year decision after that.

it got a 9? awesome I thought the controls were fresh and original, and the game just felt realistic... it just felt more satisfying. I'm glad they pulled it off.

Skate is a F***** video game! If you want your so called "realism" go out and skate. This game may seem "realistic" but at the end of the day it's just a video game. Which has nothing to do with the real thing.
I've been waiting a loooong time for a slower paced, more realistic skateboarding game. I thought we had it with Project 8, but that just turned out to be another over the top TH game, with overdone bloom lighting. I can't wait for Skate!!
I think skate is a good game but the camera sucks. It just doesn't help the game at all. To me, I get sick playing this game because the camera just kind of floats with the player. I'm not saying that you have to have a behind the character view but this is ridiculous. I also don't like the idea of the "pushing" buttons. Just switch that to the thumbstick (still pushing maybe up 3 times) and it would be much better. To me, nothing beats actually going out and skating though. So all you people who talk about how "realistic" it is, the only time this game is going to be realistic is when they make you spend hours of your time just trying to learn to ollie and do a kickflip. I will check out skate but I just don't think it will be enough to knock off TH from the skateboarding mountian.

Probably but back in the day as TH games have been indecline for years now with P8 bringing thing back for the better but now that Skate is out and it's going for the more realistic route TH games should actually go more crazy. Is has that arcadey gameplay that alot of people enjoy so instead of giving us skateparks etc give us more crazy stuff like the moon or the theme park in P8.
All I can say is THPS finally has a decent game to fight with. I loved the demo of SKATE. Something different in the genre if I get one game this year it will be SKATE. As Tony Hawks lost it appeal at 4 really. But I got them all because they where still the only skate boarding games worth playing.
