Please read the whole post before you get angry, because I know there's a lot of people in this forum that love Skyrim.

I think Skyrim is an awesome game, and I know I'm going to play it to death like I'm doing with Mass Effect, but it seems to me that a lot of people play it just to be able to say that they play it. I imagine a lot of people are going to invest 30-40 hours into the game, then call it quits. Keep in mind, this is just the opinion I get from people that I know. I remember about 10 people who were incredibly excited for Skyrim before it came out, but now it seems that everyone is playing it, and it seems that a good chunk of these people are playing it just to fit in.

Anyway, these are just the thoughts of a weary 16-year old. I apologize if this post does not agree with your opinions.

Well, I've never played any of the Elder Scrolls games, so I definitely can't say I'm on the Elder Scrolls bandwagon. I should probably try one of them out sometime.

It is only human nature for one to want to fit in with their peers and also to want whatever the "next big thing is". There are certainly plenty of people who will try to the game just to see how good it is and to see if it lives up to the hype that it has received. This happens with anything in life. Take sports for example, we all know about the fair weather fans. Those who cheer for the team when it is winning and couldn't careless when "their" team is loosing. People feel the need to belong to a greater collective and this is just another example. Some of those people will do exactly as you stated and quit after so many hours. However, there may be even more people who find that they really like the game and complete it, in the process become fans of future installements.

You cant do that now. The second you play an Elder Scrolls game, you'll be a bandwagoner.

If you weren't playing them from the very beginning, then you're a noob, useless fair-weather fan who should stick to playing Tetris.

But yea, you should definitely try one out. No better time to try than with Skyrim.

I don't see why this would bother you.

There's bandwagoners in everything, some people got an Xbox because everyone they knew had one, some people got Halo because it was popular.

In the end just get what you like and play what you want.

Don't worry about what "the other people" are doing, there will always be crowds of lemmings.

Are you trying to say that trying new things is bad? The gamers that may be playing TES for the first time may be wanting to try something new since everyone is raving about it. I don't see anything wrong with that.

all console gamers are in it just to play it... hows that for a comment? Whats wrong with a good chunk playing a game? it's a AAA title that as a lot backbone to it. It was deemed to be successful

I've been playing Elder Scrolls games since Arena and it doesn't bother me if people are only playing Skyrim because it's the newest 'big game.' The Elder Scrolls is an amazing collection of games, and no matter where people start from, they are worth playing. And Skyrim is just plain awesome.

Oblivion didn't fit the series very well, at least for me, and Skyrim feels much more like an Elder Scrolls game. This is a big reason why; there is a tremendous amount of freedom and the world is made to be worth exploring.

I think the band-wagoners are great if they are buying the game. Means the developer will make more than enough money to justify making another game in this great series.

Morrowind sucked. Oblivion sucked, but not as much. Skyrim is good. And this is coming from someone who loves the RPG fantasy genre of leveling up etc. I played WoW for 3 years. I don't know why I hate these Elder Scrolls games so much, but Skyrim is good. I'd rate it slightly better than Final Fantasy.

Only pick it up if you know you have a lot of free time...the first time I played Oblivion, I was addicted. I had to put in 2-3 hours every night... I had to balance school and Oblivion, and it bothered me when I had more work than Oblivion time. The reason why I haven't picked Skyrim up yet, is because I'm worried that I'll get addicted again.

i didn't plan on playing Skyrim right after it came out. i was stoked about MW3 and i knew Skyrim was going to be awesome, but i planned on playing the crap out of MW3. i got MW3, i really like the game, but my brother bought Skyrim and honestly, as good of a game as i think MW3 is, Skyrim is so much better.

Who cares. If the game is getting played, nothing else matters. People have different reasons for playing a game, some do it for achievements, pure enjoyment, or because it's the "cool" game out right now. As long as the game is being played, disregard the reasons, it's a good thing.

I got all over and inside Oblivion. I loved that game to death, and that was my first real big RPG open world game. I tried to play Morrowind but couldn't get past the awful graphics, because I was used to looking at gameplay of Oblivion. I clocking in over 300 hours into it and planning to play Skyrim more. But I see what you mean, a lot of people are going by the hype and I really hope they enjoy the game and not regret it.

is that a bad thing? who cares why someone plays a game as long as they do play it and get to experience why it is loved by so many, plus more people buying the games means more money for the developer which means more good games for gamers.

Before you become a fan of anything, you need to start somewhere, right? Who cares how and when people get into a game/series.

I wasn't interested in the game, but since I keep hearing about how good it is I was thinking about picking it up. I guess I'm a band-wagoner. :D My question is, what is wrong with band-wagoners? So what if people pick up a game just because it is popular? I think that is a good thing for both the game developer as well as the person that gets to experience a game s/he may not have otherwise. How did you originally get into video games? I got into video games because my friends had a Sega Genesis and went on and on about how cool it was, so I joined in. A band-wagoner move, but one that led to a lifetime hobby.

Though they may have jumped on the bandwagon to fit in, if they get a great gaming experience out of it then what does it matter?

I bought it because when Oblivion came out, I watched one of my friends play it to death, and was totally interested in even just watching it. Skyrim seemed like it was worth it to me.

It's too bad that game ruined the ES franchise for you because Oblivion is far and away the worst.

If I did buy Skyrim and play it for 40 hours or so. Whatever it takes to "complete" the storyline. That would really bother you? I have no intention of actually doing this.

But it would bother someone I would never meet in real life somewhere in the Videogaming Universe? If I did that? If that is all you have to worry about bothering you. Then you are most fortunate.

Your only 16yrs old. Sorry to break it too ya. There are far worse things in life to come. More stressful things to worry about then people jumping on the Elder Scrolls Skyrim Bandwagon.

I'm not saying "OMG ITS NOT FAIR GAIZ SKRIMS 2 P0PULAR!!!1!1!!", I'm just pointing out that a lot of people I know are buying the game because it's the "hip" new thing right now.

But after reading some of the posts, I understand now that if it weren't for a bunch of people saying Skyrim is awesome, then a lot of people wouldn't be playing it, and then they'd be missing out. I also now know that the more people buy the game, the more money Bethesda makes, and the more recources they'll have to create the next awesome Elder Scrolls game.

I personally disagree. I started Elder Scrolls with Oblivion, and loved the hell out of it. Then a couple years later played Morrowind. I found it hard to enjoy because of the graphics. I know graphics never make a game good, but It was hard to enjoy the game when you can't tell what was what, and the combat was tacky. I'm sure if you played Morrowind when it first release, and it was up-to-date it was amazing. But going back to it years later it's hard to enjoy. Skyrim > Oblivion > Morrowind imo
