So gaming in HD on an LCD TV or Plasma is out of the question for me

Something about them makes me feel real nauseous, gives me bad headaches too, so I can't do it.

Currently doing next gen gaming in SD, but would like to do HD. When I do current games on my PC in high resolution/maxed graphics, I have no issues, so I'm wondering if there's a way to hook my 360 up to a PC monitor? Any suggestions?

Aside from that, do I have any other options?

Sorry to hear that. Gaming on a huge HD screen is pretty sweet. But a VGA cable should allow you to hook up your 360 to your pc.

If anyone can confirm this it would be great. I do have a monitor I could try it on, however it is 4:3. Do I need a widescreen monitor, or does the 360 provide resolutions in 4:3 as well as 16:9?

You can use the VGA cables from microsoft that offers like 720p i think. Also, i don't think it matters that you have 4:3 or 16:9. Obivously widescreen would look better but regardless i don't think it matters

I'm imagining that if I'm playing in 4:3 and play RE5 (as an example), it will display it as letterbox like it does on 4:3 SDTV. Anyway. The 360 VGA cable looks like it'll be a hard find; any other options for 360 to PC VGA, or should I just try and hunt one down?

Most retailers carry the Microsoft brand cable...Not hard to find at all. BTW, Microsoft brand is the only one worth buying... The setup on the box for the cable actually lets you pick the native resolution of your monitor, rather than picking a ratio.

CRT HDTVs are the way FORWARD. They haven't become widely available yet. But yeah anyway, I play my Xbox on my old CRT 17" monitor at 1024x768 using the VGA cable and its great. I don't see any difference in higher resolutions on this size screen so thats why I use 1024x768. But the VGA cable offers up to 1080p. Only problem is you need an external sound device, unless your monitor has a minijack input and speakers built in...

No need to boast or anything... I prefer gaming on smaller screens because my vision sucks and I don't like wearing glasses while I play as they put me off while aiming and stuff so I prefer to sit close to a small screen.

Well, as far as I can tell, CRTs are pretty much history, and I don't see CRT HDTVs making a comeback. Current is just way too light and sleek looking for most people to go back to CRT. I do miss CRT though, because yeah, it never gave me any visual problems. My current set is a Toshiba that can do 480p, but the card the decoded for 480p picture has somehow failed, and so I'm stuck with 480i. I'd send it in and pay for the repairs, but it's out of warranty, and shipping on a CRT is ****ing nuts. If it were a 720p capable set it'd be worth it, but 480i to 480p, meh. I'll see if I can hunt down some VGA cables tomorrow. From what I've read, it actually looks better than TV displays. Even if that's just a highly opinionated observation, I'd really like to enjoy some healthy HD gaming.

Im pretty sure (unless im mistaken...) that they have been trying to make CRT HDTV's for a good while now, but its just hard to fit all those pixels in because of how it works. But I think the reason they want to do it is because CRT has always had better quality than LCD/Plasma.

Hotwire, if you're interested, I found what the next-gen CRT is. It's called "SED", it's being developed by Toshiba and Canon. From what I've read so far, the only thing really holding it back from release is they are trying to get it to cost them less to produce each unit, so it will be more competitive with LCD/Plasma.

Sounds interesting though. CRT HDTV, less than 1 millisecond response time, only 6 or 7cm thick as opposed to like 2-3 feet with a CRT.

The VGA cable will give you well above 720p, and better than HD resolution if you have the monitor for it.

My parents bought and LCD back home, and when I went home the other weekend, I was pumped to play online HD. Then I realized that TV has ridiculous input lag, something like 50ms. It's so stupid, and now I'm stuck playing with it when I go home over the summer.

Yea, I mean the screen response time is 5ms, but input lag is a whole different monster. I was trying to sync Rock Band, and it was giving me numbers from 50ms-100ms. It was ridiculous.

By the time that comes out, we'll have OLED wallpapers covering an entire wall.

I actually bought a knock-off Xbox 360 cable off Ebay for $8 and it works great with my 19in 4:3 Samsung monitor. The Xbox automatically recognizes it and adjusts the resolution to 1280x1024. While the system menus are somewhat blurry, ingame graphics are super sharp, but yeah, you are stuck with the black bars on top and bottom at that resolution. So if anyone is wondering, 3rd party Xbox 360 VGA cables that you see on Ebay do in deed work just like the official one.
