It's been pretty cool so far. I own Viva Pinata and Gears of War, which look fantastic on our HDTV (if only they looked as nice on the TV in my room). However, the console is really loud. When I'm on the dashboard the console has a quite hum, but once I boot up a game it gets much louder. The sound is probably equivalent to when you first boot up a PC, except it never goes away. Is this normal? If it is I can deal with it, but I wasn't sure if I had a "bad" 360.

Yeah man, the 360 is very loud. It's easily the loudest console I've ever heard. Like you said, it's decent while in the dashboard, but when you boot up a game it gets very loud.

Alright thanks guys. I'm sure I will get used to it soon enough. It probably doesn't help that I own a Wii as well, which is near silent. :P

I can hear mine humming in the living room when I'm in the kitchen even if it's just sitting at the dashboard.

It's a really loud system. But I don't mind hearing it hum. It means it's still alive:P

Have fun with your 360:D

The 360's dvd drive sounds like a jet perpetually taking off -_- Other than that and the risk of hardware failure, it takes Q's and Kicks A's. ~Enjoy

Oh and @krp008: Lame.

It's a loud system. When I first got mine, I came here and asked the exact same thing.

You guys must play mute or have a surround sound and not use it...

I cant hear my X360 over the gameplay with my home theater... And I dont have it that loud sicn I have a new born in the house, and I still cant hear my X360 over the sound. The only time I hear it it's when its loading up the game DVD. Crank up the music/sound :p

First of, welcome to the community! This year is a great year to have the 360, if you don't mind spending a lot of money on games :P. And you'll get used to the noise from the 360, since you'll be to busy paying attention to the game.

Yeah it's fairly noisy. I don't think you will notice when playing games like gears though.

He11 ya the Dreamcast is way louder than the 360. I recently hooked up my Dreamcast and forgot how loud that thing is. The 360 pales in comparison to that monstrosity.

I've got two fans in my window to circulate the air running all the time, and I've got my PC with two fans in it, one of them is a mod. I sleep with this noise, so when I turn my 360 on the sound isn't noticable.

If the noise starts up when you get out of the dashboard it is your DVD drive making noise. Mine does the same, but it goes away once I start plyaing a game. Well, I think it goes away. Maybe I just don't notice it XD

Yeah, my 360 is really really loud, but I notice it mainly when a game is loading. I'm not worried about it in the least though, because the 360 is really a computer in a tiny box...well not so tiny when sitting next to the Wii, but still. The loudness of the 360 is about the same as my PC. If there were any rediculously long loading times or other problems during the noise, then I might be worried.

Congratulations on your new 360. Hopefully you don't get the ring of death.

i just traded mine in for an elite a couple of weeks ago and it seems to be much more quiet thanmy old 360. I know that peoplehave said that there isntanything new in it to make it this way but it is quieter
