good start.. are you looking to get him some more? Assassin's Creed is a good Action-Adventure, and Call of Duty 4 is a great FPS.

Wish I coulda had a start like that.

Other games he may be interested in might be Mass Effect, Halo 3, and Call of Duty 4. They seem to be getting a lot of praise from around the community.

How old is your 'son'? Those games are all hardcore and very bloody. Gears of War has an option to turn off extreme content (basically making it almost T rated), but the others don't (as far as I know).

Not trying to judge you or anything, but seriously these are not kids games by any means. Just thought you should know.

I appreciate your concern, but my son is very mature for his age.He is well mannered and understands the difference between reality and a videogame.I was the same way growing up and my generations seen the likes of mortal kombat, doom and all the other games the media likes to give bad press to.

If you want to play with your son, Gears of War and Halo 3 have some great co-op. If you want to play deathmatches and the like with him, Call of Duty 4 has the best multiplayer.

I'd drop Dead Rising and get Assassins Creed, I'd also replace gears with COD4 or Halo 3 (COD4 is better in my opinion)

THE ORANGE BOX is a must for every Xbox 360 owner that is not playing it on the PC. Portal alone makes it worth the purchase, such an amazing innovative game, Team Fortress is one of the most fun online experiences, and I have yet to play Half Life 2, Episode 1, or Episode 2 which is known to be one of the greatest games of all time. But that is a great way to start him out with the system, man when i got it I got Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo Elements of Power, Call of Duty 2, Quake 4 and Quake 2. All purchased by me as my own Christmas gift at launch but now with all the amazing games out you can pick up games I paid $60 for, for about 10. lol. Makes it worth waiting.

hmmm, mixed opinions on gears. let me rephrase this, if i could get six games(three on x-mas and three on his b-day),does it really matter what 3 i buy 1st? i had my heart set on gears dead rising and bioshock(bioshock being my first pick) for x-masand i was considering halo 3,assasins creed and mass effect for his b-day(jan 21st).Another question is i bought the arcade model and am wondering if these games take up alot of space.Because if he cant at least save his games then i am going to get a hardrive too(I know that 256 meg memory card wont last too long anyhow).BTW I(We) Already own cod4..

i would get cod 4, halo 3, and mass effect they are the newest nand strongest rated nex gen games and perform really well..once he plays those games he might have other suggestions for his b-day. so my advice is start out with the best and let him pick some of his own ones after he gets the feel of 360

All these games are great however, If your giving your son online as well (or if hes planning to play online somewhere in the near future) I advise you to swap Gears of War for Call of Duty 4. Both games are great but I think the online community of cod4 is bigger since its newer and has a 'level-system' implemented.

Anyways, happy christmas everyone:)

I got a Xbox360[20GB] on friday (dec 21) for $250, used from my co-worker...

I have no games... just regular Xbox games that i took from my kid cousin (GTA: Vice City and San Andreas, Gun, and King of Fighters 2002/2003... GTA VC is the only one I tried out so far and it works, I don't know if the other games are also back-wards compatible)....

My first 360 game is either going to be Halo 3 or CoD4, because my friends has both and I want a good FPS...

All the recommendations in this topic are great, as are what you got him. Enjoy, I mean hope he enjoys the gift :P

Anyways, I have to agree with the majority who recommended Halo 3 and/or CoD4.

I would also recommend picking up a battery charge station, an extra controller and 12 months of Xbox Live ... but that's really extra stuff.

Oh and uh, Merry Christmas.

Don't have second thoughts about Gears. It's as good as Halo 3 easily but there are people that prefer Halo, and people that prefer GoW.

Get Condemned Criminal Origins. It was a launch game but the sequel will be out soon. Condemned is a very good FPS/W (first person shooter/whacker) You rarely use guns but you have to whack people with pipes and things you find lying around.
