Normally, I dont play games for that long for the mere fact that I dont get anything done if I do.... But I must say that Mass Effect is probably one of the best if not the best game I have ever played. The only other game I have played that plays with your emotions like that is Halo 3 and Bioshock... its insane. Can't wait for the ending.

But I digress... My main reason for this topic was that I actually had to shut the xbox off for a bit because the game slowed WAAYYY down. Kinda like running a high end game on a low end PC. Just thought it was funny cause it reminded me of the good old NES and SNES days where you had to wait for it to catch up. But other than the slow down, the 360 performed GREAT the whole way through. I would say 9 hours of solid gameplay on a game as demanding as mass effect and all that happened was a little slow down.. i hope this mean M$ fixed their little 360 issues.

i couldn't seem to find anything that i agree with in yur post other than your liking of Halo 3... i don't like Mass Effect... there just isn't enough action for me (and i know i gonna catch alot of crap for this post)... i don't particularly like Bioshock it's good and i have it in my game library cuz its fun from time to time... but it has nothing that can keep my attention... only 2 endings, no MP, and all the paths dont really branch out enough for me... i'm hoping if they make a part 2 i'll like that... and lastly i don't think M$ has fixed the 360 problems... it seems that they've just made them show up less frequently with minor patches (not like game patches)

i also can't see how Mass Effect could hold your attention for 9 hours... i certainly couldn't... but still we both like Halo right?

Mass Effect is for me one of those games that feels amazingly Epic, it was a defining gaming moment for me when i was playing, i sat in awe after id been playing it for a few hours, reminds me of the days i was blown away by the scale and story of the likes of Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, FF7, MGS, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Halo

The only game ive played in the past few years that had the same effect was Half Life 2, Gears was close it just felt to short and ended abruptly, Halo 3 didnt feel as grand as Halo did, so Halo 1 remains my favourite of the Halo Franchise.

Years ago lots of games used to keep me glued to the set for 8 hours, nowadays im lucky if a game keeps me playing for more than 2 or 3, maybe its just because im older and have less free time.

Your going to have to explain why Halo 3 "played with your emotions", IMO this game isnt really worth being emotional about. The only recent game that did that for me was Lost Odyssey. Damn that games good.

What else should have happened?

You had to stop playing cause it was too slow seems pretty big flaw to me

Mass Effect is infact the best RPG I have personally played in a long time. I still don't understand some of the criticism this game gets. It is a solid game, with which you could play through all 23 hours of it in one sitting if you got into it. People who just don't do RPG's will completely disagree with you, most likely because they lack a large amount of intellect to even want to play a game besides Halo 3.... One game that bested Mass Effect for me on an emotional scale would be Lost Odyssey.... This game is simply amazing, and a masterpiece. The story is epic with the introduction to a new saga, a new character to loath about in the gaming industry, Kaim. LO draws me in every time I play it... It literally turns intended quick 1 hour sessions into 3-4 for me.

Ok.. so for clarification on the Halo 3 thing. I just really like stories and I really stories that are involved in video games. And as dumb as this probably sounds... I would say the part that plays with my emotions is the attachment everyone has with master cheif. He's almost a savior of sorts. The sarg and of course... cortana. Through all the halos they have just built up this attachement for everybody in the game... and to think that so many die in the end is just one of those things that you feel for... thats all

I will say that Mass Effect has a larger emotional effect than most others though. Just the relationships you build in the game... is almost to much to realize your actually in a video game. And like I said... I never play games for that long. Anyone else have any other games that are like this... i mean with the story/emotion thing.

I loved Mass Effect, well not at first. I've been playing on a SD tv for about a year and a half, so when I got Mass Effect I played though it once and did't really touch it for almost a month. Then I finally got an HDTV and man it was like playing a whole different game. I ended up playing though it 4 times (last 2 were pretty much speed runs) and getting most of the acheievments.

I know how that is. I had the same issues. The game is great, but the loading times would get progressively longer...and the system would be trying to put more effort in delivering the cinematics at the same speed. Lost Odyssey is the same...but it's more frequent. but it's not an issue.

The SP in COD4 is miles above Halo 3 as it's a huge improvement over the previous games in the series. Whereas, Halo 3 has little to no improvement over Halo 2, which also had very mediocre gameplay in terms of SP. Yes, the Halo series is good in terms of MP as in it has a lot of options, but it's definitely getting old and I'm really hoping Bungie starts on something fresh and lays the Halo series to rest. I don't love COD4, but I did enjoy it.. I can't even bring myself to play through Halo 3 because I feel like I'm playing the same friggin' game I played 4 years ago. ME is an amazing achievement, and I was just pointing out that a lot of hardcore Halo 3 fans can't get into it because it doesn't have enough "action". It's not my fault that everytime someone mentions that as a reason for disliking Mass Effect that they bring up Halo. Some people are fanboys, some aren't. No matter how you look at it, a 9.5 game to one person might be a 6.0 game to someone else, such as Halo 3 to me. To each their own, but I'm still entitled to my opinion so don't bash on me just because it breaks your heart everytime someone says that Halo 3 is mediocre.

Yeah, I played Halo 3 and Mass Effect and echo the TC's comments.

While Halo 3's story was a bit tough to follow the first time (after 3 playthroughs its actually really good), it always resonated emotionally with a combination of cinematics, score and some choice dialogue (yeah, some was cheesy but some was effective). Of course if you never invested yourself in the characters or only cared about rushing through the campaign for the achievements or ending, then its doubtful the story or events mattered much at all.

Mass Effect's story is much larger and indepth and resonates VERY well. Make sure and take your time and enjoy all the nuances of it. If you don't read the codex entries or continue to ask questions, you'll miss a lot. The story of the Krogans in particular was really something that dug a lot deeper than most games (or even movies) attempt to do.

I have yet to play Bioshock beyond the demo, but I've heard good things about the story (well, except the last 3rd of the game and the ending).

I'm glad that stories are really trying to move us emotionally now. I can only help the medium.

I wouldn't consider Halo 3 an emotional game, but Bioshock and ME definitely are.

I played ME for almost an entire day (about 14 hours) the first day I got it and my 360 had no problem except VERY minor slow down.
It's the last claw you encounter. You enter the room, go up stairs on the right hand side walk along and see it, then you go down the stairs, kill the bunch of guys there and use the computer at the end of the room. You have to set the PSI in a set range and the hanger door will crash down and cut the claw off. Hope that helped.
Halo's story was very craptastic. I was emotionless the whole way through. I was just waiting for the next achievement to pop up :o

However a shooter with a good storyline that had some shock and awe parts was COD4. Short but damn good. Im going to go on a Mass Effect binge the next few weeks until Vegas 2 comes out =)

Mass Effect was very good as was bioshockAgent_Kaliaver

That was exactly what i was thinking....

trust me. play all 3 games in a row, and you will become attached to those characters, and the caus for which you fight.

oh ya and ME is awesome. i'm waiting a lil while before i play it again just so it's nice and fresh in my mind again.
