I Just want to say to you guys that this game is up there with silent hill 2 and 1 , my god ... i mean the final hours of the game are so insane ..i just had to take brakes from time to time , this is one of the most deepest survival horror game i have ever played ...some puzzels even speak about life itself
The Mask Puzzle
i just wanted to say for anyone who is a fan of survival horror games or just want to go on a thrilling epic journey then be my guest and get this game! ...the story is really great , one of the high points in the game espically the sound and the music ...it just gives you a chilling feeling and man when i play this game i feel like im really at his place , the atmosphere is so great that your mind can't take it from being so real looking and with the high quailty sound , you'll feel like going through insanity itself...i just want to say its a great game and i never expected it to be like this , Last but not least...this game has epic/intense boss battles and cutscenes that'll make you shiver... an instant 10/10.

man, i am really considering this a purchase...but im still on the fence. im a survival horror fanatic, but of classic horror games...mostly the original RE games (Re1,2,3,CV) and SH1&2.

This game looks like it draws back to the original horror survival style...but people are saying its almost like RE4 (which disappointed me because it didn't feel like RE at all, yes i know i'm one of the billion that think this but whatever)

Would this appeal to me still? I want a survival horror game with tons of puzzles and a game that actually makes you try to think rather than just act on instinct.

Also, how long did it take you to reach the end?

This game would definitely be for you man , i mean dont even think about it.....it took me nonstop 2-3 days of gameplay , i repeat Non-stop it means my only breaks are food - bathroom and well just taking time off looking at walls because of all the insanity that is happening in the game:P

i've been dying for a fun survival horror game since SH2...the only game that offered some scary enjoyment was Condemned, but that was more action than scary.

Are there a lot of chllanging puzzles? Do you have to stop and think about puzzles at any moment? and are there a lot of different areas to explore (like in the originals with the hosptial, hotels, schools, etc?)

sorry, im due for lunch at work and will head to EB if this game really fits my needs.

It will offer you alot of scares ...espically if you have a home theater or surround sound.

Well i'll be honest , not many puzzels are challenging but there are some that requires thinking . There are many areas to explore .. hospital , hotel , graveyard .etc

Its ok :) if you bought the game...please do tell me what you think about it on this topic.:)

I watched some live gameplay last night and the game looks absolutly amazing, i am going to go pick it up tonight after work. I'm excited to get it in my own house and turn off all of the lights =]

I am a huge fan of horror games, Condemned, Fatal Frame, Resident Evil, Siren, etc. so i am super excited about the launch of this game.

You seem to love playing games that have disturbing enviorments / creatures instead of desturbing creatures , gore with action ... dead space is a thriller and action from what i see but if you need a really scary game that makes you feel like your into this insane world , of course then silent hill is always your best bet.:) not to mention silent hill is the only survival horror game that in the end leaves a huge impact on me. [ to be frank , i never saw any gameplay of this game or read anything ... i bought it straight of the bat and have been enjoying it ever since. ]

Yes it is worth getting even if you havn't because all silent hill stories are different except 1 , 2 and abit of 3 which are linked together the 4th is something new and homecoming which is the fifth one is something also new ... different creatures , characters.etc

Your welcome anytime.

you understand my tastes very well =)

its true, i'm a HUGE fan of disturbing environments and insanity more than anything. I'm pumped to play this...like REALLY pumped. And its not only because of what you've said, but also for the simple fact that survival horror as a genre has turned to action oriented gaming more than anything (RE4 for example, which isn't bad for people who loved it)...in the end, for me survival horror is about atmosphere, story and getting under the skin. I don't care if the game lacks ammo (geez, the original RE's were notorious for that)...if anything, that only adds to the suspense for me. Most of the complaints i've heard haven't affected my interest in this...if anything, they've intensified my need to buy it.

I'm not sure why people are putting out there that Homecoming is more action oriented or more like RE4, its not. Only big change up in the combat is that now you can dodge and block (why was this never there in the first place?) and you have a heavy and light attack. Theres a bit more strategy in the fighting but its not too much more action than before. Its maybe more fluid but thats it. Your not a wrecking ball tearing through enemies with your melee weapons you still have to pick your battles carefully and fighting an enemy wiht the wrong weapon is especially hairy. And as for guns, there is practically no ammo, much much less so than any other SH game even on the easiest difficulty setting. The only times you get ammo are right before an important battle and when you first get the gun. Your not Leon in RE4 picking up ammo left an right ready to fight off an army. People need to stop putting out disinformation about the gameplay because its definitely not that much different than SH1-4, just more streamlined with a better camera and actually less ammo than any other game, you have to get up close and personal in this game. You could go through almost all of SH 1 & 2 without ever touching an enemy with a melee weapon, in Homecoming actually makes it scarier because you have to get close and get in there with a knife or axe or your trusty lead pipe.

I Totally know what your talking about ..i also didnt love RE4 as much as the old ones because of how the style went...i mean they just made leon....rambo:P and from what im seeing RE5 will be the same but ow well , it'll be good ...im just glad silent hill went back to its roots and improved it.:) it is indeed an amazing game and sometimes i feel like i dont wan't to complete playing as if i did , i'll get to meet new creatures and challenges:P thats when fear is taking over i guess.

You know for the sake of argument... You could "dodge" and "block" in previous Silent Hill games as well... Its not like it wasn't there before.

I just think the new combat takes away the feeling of being helpless. Remember in past Silent Hill games everybody was just an average person. I don't know about you, but I couldn't see myself pulling off some of the movies that alex does.

Silent Hill origins sadley i havn't got the chance to play it , it looks good but i dont think the story is great like the rest [1 , 2 ,3 ,5 ] also the room i didnt mean it was that bad...i know they were trying something new with the silent hill franchise but they went way overboard with it...

They should make an english translation of that Silent Hill GameBoy Advance game, regardless of how bad it is, maybe include it as a bonus in some "collectors edition".

I really like 0-3. I despised the very existance of 4. I though the arcade game was an insult to pretty much everything, and I havn't made up my mind about 5 yet.

You should check out Origins really, plays just like the old games except with breakable weapons and such.

picked up the game on friday and I am LOVING IT!!!!! OHHHH MAN, Am I glad I didn't pass on this title. It really does stay true to the roots of survival horror....and its just outstanding for it. Everything works so well together. it has great atmosphere, design, graphics, sound, combat...the whole package. I can't understand the complaints about the combat system...it's one of the smartest, and probably best designed for the genre. It doesn't make the game any easier as the game is already pretty difficult...and once you string together some small combo hits it feels great. At times it seems like it'd be nicer to have some more health laying around but its not a major complaint and you do manage to get by with strategy.

great pick up...the first survival horror game i've been pleased with in a LONG TIME.

****Spoiler****

I currently just shut all of the power off for the prison in silent hill...how close am i to the end?

hmmmm...if it's only 3-4 hours then i think i'll try to finish the game asap and then trade it in to help pay for other games coming. Really doesn't seem like there's any incentive to play through a 2nd time...i dont know. I've only played 4-5 hours, encountered 2 bosses. Still, its very fun and im looking forward to further installments in the series. I know the SH games generally range between 8-10 hours, but they really need to add another element that extends the gameplay for the future (IMO)

Im going to play it the second time to collect the photos and drawings also for playing it on hard ... it may be more then 4 - 5 hours , but thats how much time it took with me because i didn't finish all the puzzles by myself:P so yeah i got help from people:) thats why i finished it faster , although the boss fights are epic and if you finished the game..go to the silent hill forum , they explain every monster and what their name means and it gives a whole new "EPIC" and how deep this game really is...

I'm torn, after seeing the average metascore I'm not really into shelling out $60 for this game, but then I hear all these amazing reviews from people and I just have an irking sensation to go pick it up. I made this mistake with The Darkness though, and I don't wanna make it again, though I do love horror games. Could you tell me if it'd be worth picking up if I've never played any of the previous SH games?

It's a great game...but is it worth $60? That is a good question and after spending the money and so far loving the experience (only to realize it will soon be over), its hard for me to recommend this being worth $60. Not because the game isn't great, but because of it's length and lack of replayability. If you like survival horror (real classic survival horror, not RE4 that is more a run and gun) and are itching to play something you've been missing for a long time (like myself), then it probably is worth the money. The game has great polish and presents itself well, but i would say if you can...try to find it for $40 or something. It's a must play for sure.

The Darkness sucked...i bought it for $15 and still felt ripped off.

You know for the sake of argument... You could "dodge" and "block" in previous Silent Hill games as well... Its not like it wasn't there before.

I just think the new combat takes away the feeling of being helpless. Remember in past Silent Hill games everybody was just an average person. I don't know about you, but I couldn't see myself pulling off some of the movies that alex does.

ya but see the fact is you never played as a military trained man in the previous silent hill games. You played as just avereage men and women. Thats why the combat should be what it is now. like it was stated, your not some force to be reckoned with. alex just happens to be a man who knows what he's doing and how to take care of himself. thats whats irritated me about the reviews from like IGN. What are they expecting, a young army veteran to be a sissy who cowers at every shadow.

I think the game is worth full price. I have only bought a handfull of games at full price and didnt feel bad about it.. like i should have waited for a price drop .. and this was one of them. If you liked the other games, or any survival horror games youll like this one and since there are so few games like it out on the 360 i think that makes it even more worth it. but if youre unsure, look up some gameplay footage or rent it and see if youll enjoy it
