SO I finally took a good look at all the weapons in cod4 the other day and I'm kinda shocked. I like organizing weapons in my mind so that I know which ones are best suited for me and which ones I can just toss out. but this time around, a bunch of them seem VERY similar.

I obviously can sort out sniper rifles for far range and shotguns for up close. However, it gets so confusing to decide what assault rifles are best and which ones are good for upclose and the same applies for smgs. Then the AK-47 and M4 both seem to work well in upclose and I start to say to myself: wait a minute, arent shottys for that purpose? and then there's the m16 that seems good at mid-far range but I can also seem to kill midrange w/ things like the M4. And to top off all that confusion, there's those LMGs that seem to operate the same as AKs (like spray and pray kinda thing)

sorry for making you guys read all that :), but I just dont know what weapons to use anymore for certain purposes like upclose, mid range and far and what gun types are good. so could anyone give me some advice and tips?!?! thanks a BUNCH for anyone who decides to help me out here.

NOTE: this is written from a person who just barely started cod4 so if some of my thoughts on the weapons are incorrect, that's why, and I dont really wanna experiment w/ all the weapons since there seem to be so many..

again, thanks a bunch!!

Well, if you're just starting out, the M16 + Stopping Power + Red Dot Sight is a wonderful combination.

Ditto. The M4 is good for close to mid range. And you can pick off someone who is at a further distance if they are camping.

Ok thanks for all your advice guys.

quick thing, so from all the responses it seems that I should just stick w/ assault rifles for most of the game? or should I use like SMGs,etc?

I like the AK-74u, the entire Russian gun series [47, 74u, RPD] all have amazing iron sights, so they are good with silencers or for RPD the foreward grip.

Mmhmm. These guys speak the truth. But the M16 is also a great weapon that will get you through almost any situation. They both work well at almost any range. Just avoid the ACOG scopes and remember to fire in bursts if you're firing from further away with the M4.

RPD, MP5, AK-U, and P90 are my weapons of choice. Stick to headquarters and search & destroy for decent XP. stopping power and steady aim are my perks of choice and either use claymores and 3x frags.

MP5 with silencer and stopping power, 50 cal (inconsistent but I still like it) with stopping power, M4 with stopping power, (personal fav!) Noob-tubing is annoying but it is an easy way to get kills at the beginning, and a shotgun with extreme conditioning and double tap...

Stopping power is an amazing perk and is recommended to be used on almost all guns. Juggernaugt is a noob perk as for Martyrdom and Last Stand (don't even use those...skill > points. quit thinking of easy ways to get off by killing someone, if you actually have "skill" then you should be able to do it w/o a wusssy last oportunity.)

thanks for all your replies guys!!

I think I will continue using the M16 until I start performing better. and then I'll probably switch over to an AK47, M4, and try out the P90 and AK74. and yet still, I cant seem to differentiate between those 4 weapons, they all seem to just spray out bullets.. :P

and lastly, you guys dont reccomend shottys or LMGs for most situations right?

Once you unlock the G36c, put a red dot on it, with stopping power. Awesome gun. Use an ACOG if you're willing to take your time with shots. If you only shoot 1 bullet at a time with it, it's very accurate. And still quite accurate in sustained bursts. I maxed out that gun faster than any other.

And could someone help me differentiate between the MP5, M4, AK47, AK74u, and P90?

they all seem to work well close-mid range and all fire full auto..(not exactly sure that the AK74 fires full auto)

I'm not sure what you're really asking here. And yes, the AK47 fires full auto.

The MP5 is more accurate over mid-range distances than the AK74u.

The M4 is a mid-long range assault rifle, more powerful than the MP5, AK74u, and P90 per single bullet. It is also more accurate over long distances.

The P90 is basically the best of those guns, and is considered a god/noob gun. It requires very little skill, and is heavily overpowered.

The AK47 is just... overall a bad gun.

well I guess is it safe to say that:

the AK47 and MP5 both are very good at upclose and decent at mid range, but which one is better in upclose and at mid range?

the M4 is the most balanced for situations as it works well (not THE best) in close and mid range combat

and the P90 is just a OPed gun that is a "easy mode" button. :P

as a side note: would the M16 be the best weapon for mid ranged fighting?

P90 or MP5 with stopping power, bandolier, and deep impact works wonders for me. I've been getting an average of 22-32 kills in team deathmatch with these guns. That said, my style of gameplay is quite unique. All those guys with the noob tubes and M16's can't even stop me. :P

Ok, the MP5 is better at close/mid range than the AK, in almost all aspects. The AK is more powerful, but it's alot less accurate, and fires at a much slower rate than the MP5.

The M4 is indeed balanced. And the M16 is the most commonly used, and arguably the easiest to use for mid-long range. However, if you can learn to use the G36 well, it's much better.

If the only gun you use is the m16 you are the definition of N00B, and I hate that word. Use different gun combos for different maps. I'll give you a run down of my favs.

Assault Rifles - Great all around weapons. If there is any doubt on what weapon to use in a given situation, an assault rifle is a good bet. The M16 is really a great gun, but I only use it on bigger maps like Strike or Overgrown. AK47 has some kick back but is very powerful. Use it on medium sided maps. MP4 is probably the most balanced weapon as far as close and long range use. I also like the G3 as another alternative for a ranged Assault Rifle.

SubMachine Guns - The biggest benefit from these guns is that they make you A LOT more mobile and quick. I tend to use them on maps that have a lot of twists, or alleyways. Basically any map where you can flank the enemy like backlot, district or downpour. My fav is the MP5 with silencer stopping power, extreme conditioning. The P90 and AK47u are good, but the MP5 has the best iron site IMO.

Light Machine Guns - Very powerful weapons with good range. Only problem is, your mobility is severely hindered with these giant guns. Use these in maps where mobility is not an issue, where you can stay put somewhere and just unload round after round at the enemy. My fav combo - RPD with grip, Juggernaught, Deep Impact

Sniper Rifles - I use these in big maps like crossfire and strike. i forget which sniper rifle is my fav, but it's the one right before the .50 cal on the list. I think without a doubt that one is that best. Thes sniper is a lot of fun just because of the amount of skill and patience it takes to use.

Shotguns - The Map Vacant was custom made for the Shotgun. You are guaranteed at least 10 kills with a shotty on that map. I prefer the second shotgun that shoots faster, but only holds 4 shells. I use Grip, Juggernaught and Martyrdom usually with it. I use it for fun on other maps like district also.

I've been using a suppressed MP5 for most of my games. Its short range is excellent for maps like vanacant, and for it to work well you really have to get in there in that larger maps. :)

Juggernaugt is a noob perk as for Martyrdom and Last Stand (don't even use those...skill > points. quit thinking of easy ways to get off by killing someone, if you actually have "skill" then you should be able to do it w/o a wusssy last oportunity.)Spirit_Warriors

You know? I happen to think the exact opposite. If you have skills, you should never get your ass killed by some one using the Martyrdom and Last Stand perks. If that kind of behaviour bothers you, it's cuz you probably get killed a lot like that, which probably means u dont' have the real skills. I think, if they're there and you find them useful (I actually dont' like them, but because I think there much better perks), use them.

[QUOTE="LoneMercenary08"]The M-16 is a great weapon.....people will downplay it, but u can use it...its in the game....i personally love the MP5 w/ a silencer, bandoiler, UAV jammer, and increased bullet damage (not stopping power) it just depends on wat gun(s) u likesteveslugga
why do u have silencer with uav? doesnt uav jammer pretty much eliminate the need for a silencer?

I'm not positive, but I think UAV jammer only protects you from being seen on the UAV, and if you don't have a silencer you'll still appear when you shoot.

The description for it is pretty vague and doesn't address this one way or the other, I just use a silencer to be safe.

The weapon doesn't matter half as much as where you hit the enemy. Keeps your sights at chest level or head level while roaming the map so when you see someone you don't shoot their legs or something. Cause if that happens, you will die before you correct your sights. Guaranteed.

Also, everyone on here that says that any gun or perk is for noobs only cracks me up. I'll use my M16 all day long and win all day long. Am I a noob? Also, I will never give up my gold guns for some stupid symbol next to my name, so maybe I am and always will be a level 55 noob.

NOOBS RULE!

If anyone wants to get killed by a noob on free-for-all, don't be afraid to ask.
