So this dude in class tells me "Bioshock will win game of the year"...

I told him to shove Bioshock straight up his ass, not because the game sucks, but generally because it feels good.

But seriously, Game of the year? is that a fair statement? I played the demo, I wasn't blown away. It had awesome graphics, but I mean c'mon, game of the year? Sounds like hogwash to me.

I do not agree with it, but I think that it will get Game of the Year.

It is absolutely a fair statement. BioShock has been universally praised and it definitely has a shot at game of the year. I'm not sure how high of a chance it has in a year that sees Halo 3, Mass Effect and Mario released, but it definitely has a shot.

BioShock is an incredible game that gives us something different to play then the generic shooters that developers shove down out throats these days, and I found it to be a very refreshing experience. I won't go so far as to say it's a 10 like some people, but it's awesome and deserves the attention and recognition it's receiving.

Unfortunately that's not possible. Mercenaries 2 is delayed until 2008.

Shame too, because after GTA was delayed I was looking to Mercenaries 2 for open world destructive gameplay. It actually moved into my #1 slot for the year after the GTA delay, but the wait just got much longer for Mercs 2.:cry:

Now this is most likely true but remember every publication gives its own GOTY award out. So one magazine like EGM might award GOTY to Halo 3, while IGN might award GOTY to Mass Effect. So I do think that BioShock will win GOTY, but so will every other one of those games.

It comes down to this: what is your GOTY? Because really, that's all that matters.

As for game of the year, I think it has a chance. There are more publications than just GameSpot that offer Game of the Year. And to those who say Halo 3, Mass Effect, etc. will win it... really? You have the forsight to look into the future and rate a game that hasn't been released yet? There are plenty of great games this year that are worthy of the title. It will be interesting to see which one wins, but in the end what does it matter? As long as you, the individual, enjoy the game some superficial award shouldn't matter.

Actually, I think Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros. Brawl will get it. And no, I'm not a fanboy. Reason being- A LOT of people have Wii's, so factor in a system seller like those two, and you gotta lotta people playing. But I really think Halo 3 won't get GOTY for quality, as it looks good, but not revolutionary. It could still most definately win from all those votes from the fanboys, but I just don't think It'll deserve it, even though I'm totally psyched to play it. I could really see it going to Call of Duty 4, which is like bringing back Battlefield 2, injecting it with a mixture of adrenaline and cocaine, and slapping in a great single player game to boot. My personnal favorite to win is Crysis, being 75% a PC gamer, having watched it since infancy, but I know it won't win. The reason? Nobody can run it :)FunkWeasel

Depends on how good CoD4 and Mass Effect are. But it could win.

And if you've only played the demo for Bioshock, you sound completely foolish judging/grading/scoring the game only based on that.

dude two worlds has nowhere near the foundation and background that the halo series has. im not saying halo is gonna be the best game ever, but from judging how well the last two did, and how much they were loved by the press, theres no way halo 3 will flop like two worlds. unless bungie just totally changes the gameplay, which theyre not that stupid. u just cant compare a new game like two worlds to maybe one of the most popular game franchises around right now.

Hmmm own Heavenly Sword and Bioshock and they are two of my favorites from this year. I think so far those to and Warhawk are my favorite games from this year. heheh though Halo 3, Mass Effect, Ratchet and Clank, folklore, ASsassins Creed, Uncharted and numerous others may contend for the title too ...
