I plan on getting a headset within the $300 dollar range and was wondering about this one. I'm kind of wanting a something that's able to do more than just chat in video games such a listening to music from my Zune HD and whatnot and the a30 is really standing out so far. Plus, IGN gave it a rating of 9.5. Just wanting to know what you guys thought of it in terms of audio performance compared to the other gaming headsets such as the Astro a40, Tritton Ax Pro, and Turtle Beach DX11. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Oh, and one question that has been resting on my shoulders is this: I don't have the Xbox 360 slim so I was wondering if I'll get a downgrade of performance if I plug the headset into the audio adapter that I'll have to get rather than plugging it directly into the audio port of the slim.

The Astro headsets come with a mixamp which basically upgrades the audio quality of most any device plugged into it. So it will sound better than plugging directly into the 360, not that you could even if you wanted because I'm pretty sure there's no audio jack on the 360, unless I'm mistaken. I have the A40's and they are decent. I enjoy playing games on them and watching movies. I previously had the Tritton 720's and I feel they are an upgrade mostly because in the trittons, there was a constant static noise I could almost always hear. In the A40's there is none. Also in the Trittons, I would randomly be unable to hear my teammates while they could hear me and vice versa. That happened pretty much every other time I played my 360, which got to be very annoying. It takes a minute to fix, but when you're in the middle of a game, and it happens often, it gets to be too ridiculous. The sound quality of the astros are better than the trittons to me. I do like however that with the Astro mixamp, you can use it on your pc and everything and as well use different headsets. You could hook up some grados or sennheisers and play your 360 while wearing those. It's nice.

Also, the Astro mixamp connects through an optical cable to your Xbox, so you need to purchase one of those. They are only a coupe of bucks if you search Amazon. Also, I do not know if the slim comes with an optical port as I only have the MW2 xbox, which has none. You may need to buy an adapter for it, which can be purchased from best buy.

if your gonna go for the a30's, i dont see why not go for the a40's heard a lot that the a30's are very flimsy and uncomfortable compared to others, but it all depends what u want, if you want it for just xbox, stick with turtle beach, they are specifically designed for xbox, if u want high quality surrond, go with the ax pro's, if u want versatility go with the a30's, and if u want high detail gaming go with the a40. Here is my simple review xbox only basic headset: Turtle beach x11 xbox only surround sound: Turtle beach dx-11 xbox only wireless: Turtle Beach x41 all platform surround sound: Tritton ax pro all round headset: Astro a30 all round high quality: Astro a40 It all comes down to what your limitations are: price, wires, quality, surround sound, build quality, purpose, etc

If you have $300 to spend your best bet would be the Astro A40 Audio System.

I would recomment simply not spending that much on a headset. Buy a $70-$100 headset and use the other $200 or so to get some new games or something.

dont think they are worth it after a while the astro's just begin to sound like a regular stereo headset, not very unique and lack a lot of bass. i been looking at the tritton ax pro's which have a great surround sound feature.

I'm sick of hearing this complaint from gamers about how they don't have enough bass, they are made for competitive gaming, you don't want a lot of bass because it will drown out footsteps and other game sounds that you need to hear. Also, do you own the Astro a40's with the mixamp and everything.

Exactly, they are made for competitive gaming, so if your not going to use them for competitive gaming, they are a waste
