Yeah I'm also sick of games that say you get to be "evil" like in Overlord, where your "evil" but your pretty much also killing other "evil biengs" and saving people from them, even though you have the choice to kill them, or Fable where you can be the most evil bastard that ever lived, yet no one seems to care who you murder.
It's nice to see a change, it's like instead of bieng the Pro-tagonist, your the Antagonist. Besides, with all the hype this game had, what the hell did they expect? That Kane and Lynch were gonna go on an animal rights campaign or something? Maybe they are just all mad because of the 60 dollar price tag.
It may be cheaper on Steam though, but it comes about a week later, if it's cheap, I'll think about grabbing it, but I got other games to play this month.
The poor review was not based on the main characters being antagonists or anti-heroes. Nobody was expecting the main characters to be good guys out saving the day. What they did expect, though, were actual anti-heroes with whom the player can somehow relate. Without that, there is no emotional connection to the story, and you really don't care what happens to the main character. This alone isn't sufficient for giving a game a low rating because many people just don't care about the story anyway, but for those of us who do want a good story, such a flaw can really make the game dull.
On top of that, broken controls, poor AI,and a lack of multiplayer/coop options in a game that is so reliant on teamwork add up to a low rating. The abundant use of profanity also is not a big deal in the rating, but it further detracts from the story for those of us who want a strong story, once again making the game dull in comparison to what it could be.
This game is just plain fun. I don't care what any review says about it. I also had no problems with the "broken" cover mechanic. Get next to the wall, don't move for 1 second and pop!, you're linked. Not to hard to figure out. I think Jeff just sucks at the game and wasn't having fun, so he gave it a lower score. This game is easily a 7.5 or 8, IMO.EnderSR388
I wish I knew you picked up SoF, I could've saved ya before ya opened it. :(

Oh! That's the game you were talking about. You know, I actually like it! I know, I know, but there's just something sinfully fun about blowing virtual charcters to pieces. :D Did you rent it or buy it? Oh and there was exactly 7 people, including myself, online this morning! I even wrote a review for it. You (and most people) are probably not going to like it though. :P

Yeah, I bought Assassin's Creed, Kane & Lynch, Soldier of Fortune, WWE SVR08, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles yesterday. My wallet is hurting. I can't rent games around me. We only have Blockbuster and they're always out of everything, so I don't waste my time checking there every day. Soldier of Fortune is terrible, though. I'm not hard to impress either. I liked Vamp Rain and Bullet Witch....
Biggest hunk of stinking garbage I've ever spent $60 on. It's published by Activision Value and should've been priced accordingly.

 I said the same thing! But I bought it anyways. It's nothing special, but I don't know, it's still fun. Yeah, I'm pretty easy to impress as well. I just don't expect a lot from games, then I'm usually pleasantly suprised. :)
Holy crap! I can't believe all the games you bought yesterday! :O I did pick up 3 though (AC, K&L and SOF). If you still have SOF, let's setup a MP game, I have a few guys on my list that've been playing.
I never understood all the excitement over this game. Looked mediocre to me.sonicare
Huh, what excitement?? The first I heard of it was in an issue of Game Informer a few months back. It only had one screenshot and a small paragraph. I haven't even seen any ads for it either. I'm more than positive that this game is under the radar. Nobody I know was waiting for it. When I went to Gamestop, they only had 3 copies and I bought one of them.
Edit: Oh oh, I forgot this was a K&L thread. I was talking about SOF. Oops, my bad. :?

I rarely watch TV, but I've heard as much about K&L as I have about Assassin's Creed. Most of that comes from the internet, but to me, this game seems as hyped as AC. I don't know that it will be pushed as heavily in stores, but I have seen several articles about it. The thing that confuses me is that the Gamespot review seems to contratict some of the things they stated in the previews about how easy the controls are and the good AI. Maybe that is something that seemed fine on a single level but got annoying when playing the full game, but it seems a bit odd.

I had high hopes for this one. :( I loved previous SoF games, because of the gore factor. But now, the gore doesn't seem as good and the blood looks really cheap and fake. Dammit, I knew I should've saved the $60.:x Doh!
I do the same thing as you. I never let myself get too excited for games, because I'm usually let down. I had more fun with TimeShift than Halo 3. The reason? I had super high hopes for Halo 3 and it failed to deliver the good, imo. I expected little from TimeShift and found a game that is quite enjoyable to play, while being a little generic.
Yeah, I normally don't buy that many games, but the holidays are the exception. Usually 2 a month.
Anyways, I'll be down for some SoF MP any night. Just send me a message. :)
