Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 - most require you to play online, and EA took the servers down permanently last year.
Robotron 2084 (xbla) just for being soo damn hard. I can't get to Wave 10, and there are achievements for Wave 30, and Wave 100. Utterly impossible.
FFXI's achievements are ridiculous.
DoA:X2's achievements are also ridiculous. Good luck getting ONE.
Rumble Roses XX also has insane achievements. To get them all you're looking at a good 300+ hours of mediocre lesbianesque wrestling. To get even one you'll need a guide.
Ridge Racer 6 has pretty steep requirements, too, especially as many are linked to finishing some 200 or 300 online matches. Even getting the main singleplayer ones requires time and patience.
Eternal Sonata's achievements also require you to play far more of the game than any normal person would want.
Guitar Hero III's achievements are lame too.

That's what I was thinking. by the time I could go online, it was too late.
Geometry wars is hard, and so is king kong. lol just kidding. Forza 2 is challenging, and time consuming.gamepro345
You're definately right about forza 2. it's more that it's time consuming. i'm on level 38. done all of the arcade, time trials etc and i only have 295 for it :(
speaking of hard achievements, i'm finding the orange box hard because it has 99 ACHIEVEMENTS! all worth about 5 each.
EA games are notoriously bad. all of the recent ones (nfs, burnout paradise etc.) have roughly 50% or higher online achievements. it's pathetic that it's the only way they cam coax people onto their poor servers.
Perfect Dark: Zero. I haven't played it online (don't have XBL), but after beating the SP campaign, I only had TWO achievements. Someone else mentioned this game in the thread, and he is right. Impossible game to get points in. beutlich99
You can get achievements in that game from playing with bots offline since no one palys it online anyways. I have almost 500 in that game but the Dark Agent achievements are like impossible.
XboxLive: Geometry Wars.
Retail games:
Forza 2, DoA:X2, Lost Planet (this might be because I got bored playing though), Virtua Fighter 5 (this is TIME CONSUMING and gets extremely difficult later on in the game), and last would be Orange Box. Those are the hardest I can think of right now.

I have been woundering about if bots were on if I could get points. I will now be going to Gamestop and picking it up at the cheap price. I loved playing TimeSplitters with bots. Back to the topic...I would say most online achievements are a pain because I am not really one to play much online since I normally played split screen in the dorms...but now that I graduated...I will find out how playing the games with full screen will be better.
Command and Conquer: Tiberium Wars and Guitar hero 3. C&C is fun to play, but the story mode is just too hard and almost all the achievements are "get gold on all levels" and all that nonsense. I only got 45G in that game and for
Guitar Hero, the upped difficulty makes it really hard to get the achievements for maxing out hard and expert.
Have to say GRAW? they have too many achievements having you to be on 1st place on the leaderboards.
