I think it's been a while since they gave a 10, and so after GTA IV they were a little more open for MGS. I don't think it deserved a 10, it's not that completely amazing all-around package that a 10 should really bebball_freak_2
That is pretty much what I was trying to say. When they are more open about it with one game, then they will be more open with the next "masterpiece" (according to them), and so on, and so forth. The point is they might just start handing out 10's, and it won't be nearly as rare of an award as it used to be.
[QUOTE="Sexy_Pirate"]10 (according to game websites) does not equal literally perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Port5
Then...what does it mean??????????????????
From KVO, "a game that can't be improved upon in any significant way".[QUOTE="Sexy_Pirate"]10 (according to game websites) does not equal literally perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Port5

That's a good question. If a perfect score doesn't mean perfect...what is a perfect score then? Is it like giving 110% effort?
Good lord, people. I know there isn't going to be a Halo 4. The point I was trying to make was that I don't wnt Gamespot and IGN to start handing out perfect scores.Port5Gamespot has given 6 10s in 12 years, just because two amazing games come out in the span of 6 weeks doesn't mean the reviewers are to blame.
Like White_sox said GS has only gave 6 games the score of 10 in 12 years. Everyone knew that GTA4 and MGS4 would be amazing games and probably score no less than a 9. I own both games and agree with the scores that both received. However, I really don't think that we will see another perfect score for quite some time. We have some contenders later in the year with Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, and Kill Zone 2 so I guess only time will tell.D-squared
Yeah... I doubt Gears of War 2 will recieve a 10/10 from Gamespot. It will probably be a 9.5 sort of game, like Halo 3 and Crysis. I don't have a PS3, so I won't be getting a chance to play MGS4 all the way through. However, I do have GTAIV, and I don't really think the game deserves a 10. It's really great, but the police chases were more fun in Need for Speed Most Wanted than in that, and motorcycles aren't given enough opprotunity to go at top speed. Niko is the best protagonist the series has seen thus far, and the writing (particularly the Pisswasser beer commercial) are comedic genius. I love GTAIV, it's a great game. I haven't played online yet, either, so perhaps that bit might change my mind. I still want the game to expand more beyond a mere crime simulator. While the game world feels very much alive and the work that went into the game is evinced by the excruciating detail (things like watching people actually go about their lives in the city), I don't belive you can really do enough with what you're given to warrant a perfect score. If a 10/10 means that there is nothing left to do to change the game significantly, then I can think of something. Let me have an amusing conversation with the crackhead under the bridge down the street instead of just letting me bring him Jacob's packages, or letting me shoot him to take his money. Make me serve some sort of prison sentence when a cop arrests me. Let me steal planes, I don't know. While GTAIV is the best in the series so far, it is not the perfect game that absolutely every critic says it is.
Call of Duty 4 is the only game I've played recently which I think deserves a 10, because the progression of your character, and the prizes unrelated to achievements really kept me coming back more for the intense action (which I don't think has gotten old yet. My total play time is something like 30 hours.)
I dont think GTA4 deserves a 10 but Metal Gear Solid 4 is an absolutely amazing game and if any game deserves a 10, it definately is MGS4.
But anyway, Halo 4, if it happens (God, I hope not), will undoubtedly get a 10 just because its an over-rated, over-hyped hunk of Junk.
