Here are some ways to prevent the rings of death from happening to you...

1. Make sure that the room has a ceiling fan to keep it cool if not just buy a fan and put it next to it

2. Never lay ur xbox down always leave it stood up and put 2 pillows on each side incase it falls but not to close

3. Put it in a wide area dont put it in tight spots

4.Dont play it 24/7 cause it will eventually overheat and than ur screwed i suggest playing 3 hours straight than taking a 20 min brake from it

5. Do not put it next to a window the sun will **** it up lol

thats all i have so far iv'e had my 360 for about 6 months and iv'e had no problems with it

Although this "method" seems very "scientific"... It doesn't seem practical.

Did anyone ever think of ripping the lights out? I mean you might still get the whole my 360's broken thing, but no more 3 red lights.

actually laying it vertical is the best way to play it

it also helps to keep it on a cool ground, unlike wood or carpet (duh), like marble... i hope my 360 still lives on since i dont have any warranty on it, if not well then there goes my 360 lol

So basicly every 360 owner needs a ceiling fan or their 360 will break....

Hmm....explains why I'm on my 5th console....

That's not effective. Many employee's at game stores say they get less reported system failure when the system is vertical. What's more, the biggest air intake is on the BACK. You're going to want to keep that part unsmothered. Oh, and on it's side, you're smothering a vent as well; there's one on both sides.

The fan is unneeded, considering your house has a reasonable temperature. Also, the Xbox 360 was meant to be set vertically or horizontally.

WOW!!!

You couldn't be MORE WRONG.

The 360 only has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. the extended 2 years only cover 3 red lights, which indicate that your 360 has commited suicide.

ms is fixing the drives for free after the 1 yr b/c they knows it is a hassle and and annoying. many ppl have had dics drive problems. they call up ms and they send them a box even after a year.

actually i think its 1 year, but i dont have any warranty cuz i live in brazil and got my 360 in USA, all though there is a MS here in brazil it only gives warranty to 360 owners who purchesed their 360 here, so i do have warranty but only in USA, and since i done live there and probably will never go there again its gonna be hard to use it

if my 360 fails, ill either have to try and pay some ppl to fix it (wich is possible though expensive) or just give up on the 360 and go for the ps3 =(

That's bull.

Microsoft is not fixing consoles out of warranty just to make people happy. That's ridiculous.

Also keep it on an elevated surface, ie a table with air rushing both over and under it. yes, that really can help it.

THAT is bs. you have no idea wat u r talking about. laying it horizontal will not make the disc go slower! u just wnt everyone to do it the way u want them too. the discs are more vulnerable to scratched when it is vert even if u don't touch it while a disc is in.

What proof do you have of "something" spinning slower in the disc drive?

EDIT: oh, I see an "I think" at the end of your post. But all of a sudden you know for sure?

Exactly. It doesnt cover the numerous problems like for instance, the DVD drive failing which is an issue, video oit puts failing. If something happens besides failuire we are only covered for a year. WHich is bound to happen if you dont get failure your gonna get something. Disc drive failures are a pretty common thing too.

So, if I call up MS and ask them which way to place the console, they will tell me that horizontal is bad b/c it slows the "thingy" in the disc drive?

Halochief_101

All of that stuff, I have, number of 360's broken 2, friends with machines broken 2, people on FL with machines broken 3. Crap manufacturing and cooling design is the main reason, main people who dont see that are fanboys.

I saw a picture on here or another forums where the person used 4 dice to hold the system while it lay horizontally. It left about an inch of space under the machine for air to circulate. I've also been thinking of putting my 360 on my laptop cooler when I get it. It's totally silent keeps my laptop really cool. If it works for the 360, then I'll buy another one so I can use it on both my laptop and 360. If anyone is interested, I think I bought it at Office Max for 20 bucks. The brand name is "Targus".
