I need some help connecting to live. I just bought a modem and hooked it up in my room via phone jack and my xbox will connect to my network but not to the internet. Can somebody give any advice on what is happening?

neither. Here is my situation. I live donstairs and our modem is upstairs. It is plugged into the wall so i figured i could just buy a modem and plug it into the phone jack like the other modem upstairs and i would get a signal, but it does not work. Would getting a wireless router solve my problem?

Emm i think that doesnt work cause your modems need to be registerd with your ISP in order for internet to be able to run through em.

And yes wireless should work but it's not realy ideal for gameing... Mayb you can buy a long ethernet cable and run it from upstairs somehow?

That is exactly what i want to do. Just run a long ethernet cable from upstairs, but my mother does not want that, but more importantly when i plug in the cord it takes up the internet on the computer. Tha What at is why she does not want me doing that. It there a way that i could plug it in and not take up the internet.....would a hub work or something? What would i need to get?

Ya all you need is a router and you could have shared internet with no problems.

Go ahead and buy wireless router because you might want the functionality later on for say an... ipod psp or what not.

All wireless routers usualy come with at least 2 or more ethernet ports on the back so you can share your wired connections also.
