Soul Calibur IV or Street Fighter IV. Which game do you think is better and why?

I have a variety of different genres in my game library but noticed I'm lacking in the fighting games department. Actually to be honest I haven't bought a

single fighting game current gen. This is why I come to you for advice on whether to purchase soul calibur or street fighter.

Mainly I'm looking for the game with the most online replay value.

Right now I'm leaning towards soul calibur IV because its cheaper and I belive it has more

modes which makes it more valuable imo. Plus I loved how my friends were able to create custom characters and play them online.

Im assuming soul calibur's online community didn't drop with the release of street fighter.

On other hand street fighter has more martial arts(or w/ev it really is) then weapons which I prefer, and I bet it would look flashy on my Hd t.v. Also the more

blood and brutality the better, but I doubt there will be much in either one. :(

So should I save some cash and get Soul calibur for now or stop being cheap and get street fighter for a little more. Which one would you recomend and why?

Thanks.

I liked Soul Calibur IV but I'm in the minority probably. Really I'm not sure I've played SFIV enough to comment but I like both games. Street Fighter IV will probably have a longer lasting online presence and is more challenging. I thought Soul Calibur was easier to control and a little more newbie-friendly. SFIV's single-player modes are more difficult, although SCIV's Tower of Lost Souls gets quite difficult towards the end. SCIV's story mode is easy enough that you might be able to beat it by mashing buttons with your buttcheeks. SCIV's got a customization feature where you can create your own fighter and take them online, which I thought was cool. SCIV's got more moves but many of them are easy to do. There's a lot to like about both games imo.

I think Soulcalibuer 4 offers more than Street Fighter 4. I've played both of these superb fighting games, both of which had strengths and weaknesses. In the end, I found SC4 to offer more than SF4. In SC4, you can customize the fighters and even create your own soul. There are a variety of outfits and weapons to choose from in this mode. The only variety in SF4 is you can change the color of the outfit (you can also BUY new outfits for SOME characters online). The tower of lost souls was a great addition and the achievements are well thought out as well. Also, the fact that SC4 is cheaper also makes it a little more attractive to buy. This is my opinion of course.

It really depends if you like 3D fighters or 2D fighters more in my opinion. Both are fantastic games!

In my opinion, SF4 is possibly the best fighting game ever made, and it's reviews seem to reflect this. I always found the SC series to be not skill oriented enough. It feels more like a mass market fighetr to me that can people can pick up and button mash their way to victory. No button mashing in SF4, that's for sure.

Soul Calibur for me, I just prefer it generally, also, no arcade stick needed.

My opinion...You should go for Soul Calibur first and then get Street Fighter later. Once it has become cheaper. SC still has a good community and seeing everyone's created characters is always fun. I'm partial to Captain Planet; Conan the Barbarian, Afro Samurai and Raptor-Jesus myself. But then you also get all the Cloud/Sephiroth wannabes as well. It's always classic to whoop Darth Vader's @ss as Sailor Moon anyways. XD Get em both. Play SC untill you can get SF. Odds are that their online communties will last quite a while.

I haven't even played SF 4 yet but I am going with that. Soul Calibur one was awesome, but I don't like number 4 as much because the story is stupid, all the new modes are completely tacked on and including the Star Wars characters was a stupid move and tipped the balance of the game entirely. Street Fighter 2 is awesome, but I still haven't got a chance to buy or play 4 yet but I can already tell it looks amazing. So get SF 4 for your first fighter, because its easier to play as well as there are no were near as many combos to learn (although it still offers a lot of scope and is hard to master).

Well, if you like games that can be played single-player without getting cheesed by overpowerful AI even on Easy, have decent-sized and varied movesets, have character creation, look like an actual 360 game and not like something off the Dreamcast, have relatively decent sound and let you be able to walk in more than two directions, Soulcalibur 4 is your thing. If you want something that never changed from 1995 to now aside from some new characters, one or two new moves thrown in and some 3D graphics that look pretty outdated anyways(maybe it's just me, I dunno, but SF4 wasn't the most impressive-looking game I've ever seen), g'head and get Street Fighter 4. XD And if you get SF4, good luck trying to beat it single-player unless you've beat an SF game before, I've tried beating it on Easy with about 5 characters, and I can't get past the last level...

I laugh every time someone says they don't like SF IV because they can't beat Seth on easy. It's not the games fault that you suck because Seth is extremely easy on the easy difficulties. Unlike Soul Caliber, Street Fighter takes actual skill to play.

I have been a huge fan of the Street Fighter series. I, however, can say that I feel really let down with this last installment of SF4. I thought It lacked a lot of characters, and I thought that the story mode was in short,... very weak and poorly done. But the feel of 2d fighters always offers a better feel when you are talking about fighting games. I can't say much about SC4 because I really never got into SC before. I really wanted the one that had Link, but I never came across the game, and I somewhat forgot all about it to the point that my interest just became meaningless. Id say rent them both or just ask a friend that has the same opinion or and taste in game as you do. Heck, If you have the money, just buy both.

soul calibur 4 players have much more personality. with the customizing clothes/armor and the huge amount of combos and different special attacks street fighter 4 is a lot simpler, and therefore, you see a lot more haduken spammers and you see the same ken/akuma/ryu players online over and over i have both games, and i will say that soul calibur 4 is one of the best fighting games of this console generation. virtua fighter 5 and doa 4 and tekken might rival it, but definitely not street fighter 4

I like both street fighter 4 and soul calibur 4, when i got soul calibur 4 i loved it i like how the graphics looked and playing it online was fun but somestimes the frustration (cuz i was losing lots of times)kicked in.In street fighter 4 was the same thing i love the game and it was more easier to play specially someone like me that enjoyed the capcom vs series (capcom vs snk, marvel vs capcom) because street fighter 4 had that feel to those vs series games well more like the capcom vs snk games and street fighter 2 and street fighter 3 mix together.I just found street fighter more balance at in the fighting and more easier to get into and the most important thing in a fighting game SF4 IS ALOT OF FUN SPECIALLY ONLINE OR WITH FRIENDS.Soul calibur 4 to me it feels like you need luck because you can hack a 2 or 3 hit move and you could win, yea i know soul calibur 4 has deeper combat with loads of variety of moves but i hate to remember lots of moves. Also the game is somewhat broken you can pick cervantes, kilik and hack you way doing the same move over and over and you will win in street fighter 4 that don't work that's one of the reasons why i think sf4 is more balanced.Guard impact in soul calibur 4 has to be done precise in the previous soul calibur games it was easier to guard impact but in 4 just got more ridiculous, street fighter 4 u could also do counters and focus attack which are much easier to pull off.Plus the supers look cool in sf4 yea there are some movese in soul calibur 4 that looked gorgeous but sf4 are just better.

so you're saying that because you got beat alot online, you would not recommend the game? i got beat a lot more in street fighter 4 from those akuma and ken spammers than in soul calibur 4. i hate those cervantes and kilik spammers too, but that doesn't mean they can't be beat. if you are going to say soul calibur is not as good cuz you get pwned online....

well it's difficult to compare and contrast 2D and 3D fighters becuase the gameplay of each is vastly different. But to answer your question, you said your MAINLY looking for the one with the most online replay value. Well that would have to be street fighter 4. soul calibur's online is ok but it has a serious lag at times. Coming from a soul calibur fanboy( i have all of them: 1:dc, 2:gc-i had to play as link, 3:ps2,4:360), the online lag made me stop playing it. It pissed me off to the point i couldn't even enjoy a quality game. Don't get me wrong, the online set-up was good, but the lag was too much for me. The difference in gameplay was very noticeable from the acrade mode to online play imo. I have yet to have a major problem in sf4. The game is so smooth online. Anyone who says sf4 is too hard is just too lazy to practice. enix165 is just a hater. he probably got demolished online. both are deep, diverse, and challenging. Although, the star wars characters make sc4 a little unbalanced (yoda to be exact). sc4 is a little more creative with create-a-player feature. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It just depends on if you want an excellent 2d or an excellent 3d fighter.

with what you have said, that you haven't got a fighting game on the 360 ill advise you to go 4 soul calibur 4 as its easier and the online play and game modes are better quality imo, i like both but street fighter 4 is just to hard, i stuggle on easy and i cant go a supper move or what ever they are called, i like both games and recommend both to anyone, but i have to say soul calibur is my more liked, also keep an eye out for tekken 6 when that comes out, if you get in to them types of games.

i actually find the online lobby system in street fighter 4 to be really clunky and annoying. a lot of games say unable to join. 1. it always goes back to the main screen, so i have to pick ranked match again and again 2. the custom match search takes at least 20 to 30 seconds each time 3. after it does the search, have the people say unable to play when i try to play them... there is no lag tho, which is nice. but the match system is slow and clunky

I really think that SF4 is the better fighting game of these two. Soul Calibar 4 is a good game don't get me wrong. SF 4 has just a great history and for me was the first fighting game that I have played. Overall its the better one.

I think Street Fighter IV is quite possibly the best fighting game I have ever played. I love Soul Calibur, but I had some real trouble with SCIV. Since II, the series has more or less just repackaged itself with better visuals, and taken serious amounts of content out of the game. Weapon Master is gone, and instead we've gotten a terrible RTS attempt in SCIII while SCIV gets a short, stupid story mode and renames survival mode to make you feel like you're doing something that isn't mundane and repetitive. The online was also very laggy during most of my attempts at playing the game online. Being able to create a character is also almost completely irrelevant since your character just uses the exact same moves as some other character and you have a cheap medieval-era clothes setup to go through. If you play with all the statistics and effects of your equipment, the majority of the good stuff also looks ridiculous. I don't see why Namco thought a game like this should even venture to character creation. I don't see why any fighting game would need to, especially one like Soul Calibur. Street Fighter has more modes, by the way. Soul Calibur IV has arcade, tower of souls (survival pretty much), online, and a story mode that takes five minutes to complete per character. Street Fighter IV on the other hand, has arcade/story, survival, time trial, trial mode, online, and much more content which is overall more challenging to unlock than the stuff in Soul Calibur. As far as gameplay goes, I find Street Fighter IV much more fluid and balanced. I also felt like the Critical Strike system in SCIV was completely flawed and the game's design completely kept it from being done on a regular basis. It also seemed rather pointless for them to include Tag gameplay when you couldn't even do it in Versus mode. Talk about a missed opportunity. After playing Street Fighter IV, I can't go back to previous Street Fighter games and feel reason or need to play them. After playing Soul Calibur IV, I not only can go back to Soul Calibur II, but I WANT to go back to Soul Calibur II. I wish Namco didn't turn what was a complete king of the fighting genre into another raped cash cow of a franchise. Soul Calibur IV doesn't even feel like a complete game if you played the previous titles. It just feels like Namco saying "This is what the third game was supposed to be like." The only fighting game that contends with Street Fighter IV is Virtua Fighter 5, and that's because Virtua Fighter 5 is way more deep, user-friendly, and has the best single player any fighting game has ever offered.

If your not that heavy into fighters (like me) go with SC4, it is generally much more forgiving. The main reason being that the input timing for combos in SF4 is absurdly strict, espcially in comparison to SC4. That said, once you learn a single SC4 character's movelist, it is much easier to start experimenting with combos and attack strings.

Both games also have different styles, you might want to consider watching gameplay footage of both games and see what game looks like more fun. Personally, I have more fun pulling off flashy moves with a giant sword/axe/whatever than pulling off well timed uppercuts, spin kicks, fierce punch/kicks, etc etc.

On to more opinion based claims.....I find SC4 to offer much more variety than SF4. Dont get me wrong, their both great games, but I found the SC4 characters/moves to offer more versatility and uniquness than SF4 (thanks in large part to SC4's much larger movelists). Character creation and customization is also a big plus for SC4, you can spend hours in it if you get into it.

And dont listen to some of these SF4 snobs, both games take skill and practice to play well.
