So, was over at my friends house and he tipped over a glass with root beer onto my HD, some liquid got into the air vents on the underside of the HD. I managed to shake most of it out I believe. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions before I plug it in. Man I feel like such a tool.

if anything you want to make sure you clean it before it dries up into a sticky resin.  Can't be good for the internals at all.

1) Dont panic

2) Let it do its thing overnight...Then see about it in the afternoon.

My suggestion is to get it working again, play Root Beer Tapper, and then soak in the irony.

I notcied today that my system was literally caked with dust (and I mean literally... it seemed to be embedded into the casing and wouldn't wipe off. It looked like it had been kicked around in a pile of dirt. No clue why it happened.)  The only way to clean it was with... gasp... Comet. I was terrified about using bleach on my system, and used it very sparingly. But it worked fine, and my system is back to it's glowing white sheen.

Um. Anyway. My point is... don't drink and drive.

Yeah, but microsoft decided to make it as hard as possible by making the screws tiny little hex screws.

Submerge the hard drive in alcohol for a few minutes and then take it out and let it dry overnight.  Seeing how alcohol dissolves quicker than water, it should be dry and clear of rootbeer by the next day.

Just relax and let it dry it should work fine after it dries, if you would have spilled it while it was on it might have fried itself but if it was off your pretty safe.

I had friend who spilled a bottle of Jack on his ps2, it dried up and worked fine it was just sticky for a while.

I don't think you should worry too much .... as all the others before me said - let it dry, if it will not work then you will have to take it apart and see if it can be fixed.
