NOOB just go change it under family settingsRossdaboss777
Â
NOOB i did and it doens't matter if you change it. if you are under age when you make the account you are ALWAYS under age. and the big deal is i want to try out windows messenger. stop trying to defend xbox just because you are a fan boy. admit that it's pathetic because even though i might not use the messenger a lot i still want to try it out and maybe i will use it sometime.Â
I too am disappointed. I hope when I turn 18 it will not be considered a "child account."Thorpe89
you will be. i'm almost 19 now and i'm still a "child".  Â
Honestly, whats the big deal about messenger?? It's a freaking game console, not a PC.. Isn't using a headset on a chat channel easier.. Guess I just don't get it.. IM seems like a useless feature to me..Recon13Yeah I pretty much agree. However still as being just a 20 year old myself, I do feel for the people only a few years younger then me who actually looked forward to using the IM for whatever reason and can't because MS feels they are too young to IM.
They are supposedly working on this. I wasted 45 minutes on Xbox customer support just to have the Xbox Live "specialist" say that in order to change my "child" account (I'm 18 now) to an "adult" account I'd have to unsubscribe from Gold, make a new gamertag (meaning I lose my arcade games, anything downloaded, friendslist, and my gamerscore) and then subscribe again to Gold. That is ridiculous.
Anyways, check out this webpage: an Xbox employee said they are working on it, and that something may be released soon.

Go into your email on your computer and change your birth year to 1920 or something. problem solved.The_Chronicle
why? it wouldn't help. doesn't matter if you're 18 or 120, when you're legal, you're legal.Â

When I made a new Live account it restricted me from some things because I used my little brothers email. so I went in and changed his birth year and I didnt have any restrictions anymore. By restrictions I mean no chatting with non friends, no BC and stuff like that. At least try it.

I think it is funny that you can play and download any game on Xbox Live or have video chats with anyone on a "child" account as long as it is not blocked, but you can't IM and there is no option to change it. What exactly was MS thinking? I mean in all reality the consumers who IM the most are the teens more than the adults and by preventing "child" accounts from using the service it alienates and segregates there market which is not the best idea especially if the teens are the ones who are paying the $50 a year which is my case.
