I can give a hint in terms of attaining gold:

[spoiler] Buying/Renting property is the most efficient (and easy) way of getting gold. Unless for an achievement, those "jobs" you get yield only a fraction. Plus, you earn rent from property even when you're not playing! [/spoiler]

You would've figured that out in time, anyway.

It's a great game. Enjoy it! Watch out for them hobbes though!
