Have you tried changing your settings to allow you to hear your whole team, instead of just your squad?
There is a glitch where people with mics will not show up as people with mics on the scoreboard and what not unless they are actively talking. It's not always like that, and you can see that people have mics in sometimes, but not always. So, people could actually have mics and may be not talking at all. There have been times where I've gone into games with 1 or 2 of my friends that have mics and, while in game chat, on the little squad thing on the bottom left, I was the only one with a mic next to my name. When my friends spoke, a mic would pop up but not any other time :?
play with friends. Me personally i wont use a microphone in random match, i dont care nor want to hear people talking about their day, playing kesha into the mic, everyone telling me what to do or how to play (i guess you fall into this category) , or that little kid who just found out he can cuss.
Actually no Mr. Dj, it's not that I want to tell people how to play or what to do, it's the fact that people with no mic will jump in a boat, humvee, helicopter, or whatever, and go as soon as they are able to engage the throttle while I am sprinting towards the vehicle, and get left behind. Simply because there is no communication. And with such large maps, it's kinda ridiculous to leave teammates behind and force them to wait for vehicles to re-spawn, or to run across the map, or commit suicide and spawn on somebody else.play with friends. lots of people HAVE microphones, they just dont feel like using them. If I play with a FRIEND, yeah I'll usually talk with them. But if I just jump into a game of BF, I dont really care about hearing some random person telling me what to do. Yeah it's a team game, but really I prefer to not use the mic unless I have a friend thats playing in my squad.
edit: this problem you have is in nearly EVERY online shooter. Maybe with MW people play with the same guys more often and use the mic to talk to their squad, but i think guys that talk on mic are usually really annoying.
I usually mute everyone on every game online. People are annoying as ****. So if I can't hear what you say then theres no point in you hearing what I said. The only time i use a mic is when i'm with friends.
I agree. Seems like less people are willing to use the mic with unknowns. If you see me playing BF3, I'm always mic ready.
The TC has a good point, but I almost always play with people I know, and so it's not a problem.ElraptorProblem is not everyone I know has taken the plunge into BF3 yet -_- But yes, when you play with friends this isn't an issue.
You can solve your own problems by playing with a group you know who talk. Try going to a BF3 message board and recruit or just add people in random matches you like.
Besides mics on random people =/= better game. Some people are asses, some people complain cause anyone (Team member or not) took a vehicle/weapon, or let's not forget the random 10yo who insults every race on the planet.
Xbox live is awesome but the community is like 20% A-holes. So just stick with people you know.
The game doesn't require communication. Played a lot of games in the beta, where the team worked very well together, without a word being uttered. People know what they are suppose to do, its just a matter of if they do it, of just chase kills. Sepewrath
This exactly. It was never a issue in BFBC2 for me (360). Even on PC there isn't a flood of messages saying basic things like need ammo, heal me or attack/defend. People know what they should do. It's just how they prioritize things. Going for a few kills vs attacking/defending an objective is one of those annoying things on any platform.
Crappy game? This just makes me want to go buy the crappy game and join a room with no mic

have you ever reported those people?I hate talking on mic because I'm a girl, so I get a lot of flack, but that won't ever stop me from playing a game online. I know what I'm supposed to do so just get on with it. I don't want to be harrassed, I just want to play.

I totally disagree with the TC. Anyone who has played BF games before knows what to do. I dont need to talk to guys to get the objective captured. BF players unlike CoD players understand their roles and gladly play them. I will often times not be in the top 5 in kills, but I will plant C4's on and near Mcom's or Flags. I will revive like crazy and I will destroy building and enemy vehicles. This is why BF3 is a superior game!!! Verbal communication is not needed for veteran BF players!ShoTTyMcNaDeSMost BF3 players are not veteran battlefield players. These are players that have succumbed to the hype of this game and have no idea what they are doing. So yes, verbal communication is not needed for veteran BF players. But you merely replied to my question with a narrow, and specific statement. This is like saying that all Audis are super-cars, which is entirely false. Even though I appreciate your comment, you replied to my topic in a way in which makes you correct ONLY for a particular group of players, but in no way accounts for the other 80% of battlefield players.
People in random games don't want to be told what to do. They just want to enjoy their game and play for fun. If you want to be competitive, find the same type of people to play with. I just talk to my friends in games. Then I don't have people interrupting our conversations. Ghost_702You failed to see my complaint revolving around being ditched by players who happen to reach hummers, boats, helicopters, and whatever else before other players. That is not telling players how to play. It is merely acknowledging the fact that you are playing online with other players, who are supposed to share similar objective goals in terms of the specific game type being played. A mic is not necessarily needed, but a mic is somewhat like a metaphor, or a symbol, in which helps assure that teamwork will at least be attempted. it is in no way required, and many people misinterpreted the title of this topic, in which was simply supposed to be an attention getter. That is my fault entirely. Did everyone ignore the somewhat comical statements that i strategically placed within my original post? I tried to make this topic a somewhat fun one, but instead we get a bunch of responses from anti-social people who claim that everyone on xbox is a scumbag, which is indirectly referring to his/herself as a scumbag. And girls, if a guy is bothering you so badly and you just so happen to attempt to be social on live, it's called a mute button. Laugh all the way to this special little button, and feel sorry for the millions of virgins that inhabit Xbox live. Only feel sorry for those in which it isn't their choice. I thought I would point this out before I accidentally offended someone. Lol.
I definitely agree that some people are asses. So I often find myself not playing with a mic in games like CoD or Halo, where asses are 9/10. It's just too bad I guess. I guess I change my last statement that people are referring to themselves as scumbags, there really are a LOT of scum bags on xbl. And I understand why most people choose not to play with a mic. It's just unfortunate in my opinion. I just like to play devils advocate. You can solve your own problems by playing with a group you know who talk. Same here, but I kind of agree with the original poster that it would be nice for people to use their mics in this game. It needs communication. I get frustrated as hell when someone races off in a vehicle leaving me behind in spawn waiting for another vehicle to spawn. And a lot of the time taking the objective requires quite a bit of communication to make sure everyone is moving at the right point. Battlefield is awesome when you are playing in a squad of friends, not so much on your own because no-one talks. You can't lonewolf this game as much as you can on CoD.I hate talking on mic because I'm a girl, so I get a lot of flack, but that won't ever stop me from playing a game online. I know what I'm supposed to do so just get on with it. I don't want to be harrassed, I just want to play.

Fixed it for you.
[QUOTE="skooks"]have you ever reported those people? Yeah, I report people from time to time, if someone is particularly venomous or whatever. I don't know what happens from there. I played FIFA 11 with some guy once who I ended reporting for the sexist messages he sent me, nothing appeared to happen to him but who knows.I hate talking on mic because I'm a girl, so I get a lot of flack, but that won't ever stop me from playing a game online.
