As a gamer what is more important to you. A good compelling story Such as games like Finaly Fantasy, Chrono Cross, and others. Or games like halo and gears of warwhich have allright story but good multiplayer that people try and glitch all the time.

Well, I wouldn't say "story", but a single player mode is much more important to me. Thats why shooters today make me mad, their way to short.

Well in general I prefer owning more games that focus on a good story...while just having a few multi-player games that I play with friends...you only need a few good multi-player games because after that you'll just see repetition. But you can never have too many great single player games!

I agree. Multiplayer has never really interested me. It is frustrating when brilliant games like GRAW2 come out, and then its over before you know it. (about 5 hours, I think) Running around in circles doing the 'frag tag' thing bores the hell out of me, so it's ALL about the campiagn mode for me.

Yup, I really want shooters to have at LEAST Goldeneye 007 length, that game actually took me a long time to beat, and it was fun the whole way through. (Then again, I was very young so it might be easier now :P )

i either like Really good Campaigns or really good Multiplayer, there are way too many games that have both and fail miserably

I definitely have to agree with the general consensus so far. I buy games almost strictly for their single player campaign. Alot of times with multiplayer it gets real old, real fast and always seems that in a short time you have glitches/cheaters, etc which draw the fun right out of multiplayer. I do agree it's good to have some decent multiplayer games for friends, but thats about the extent of it. Also agree that some of the good single player stories are much too short lately. Gears is a perfect example for me, amazing game, loved it, but I'm just not that attracted to the multiplayer aspect - never really was - totally loved the co-op though, just the game was much too short for my preference. ;)

i think nowadays both are essential for a good game..but if i only had to choose one then it would be story...i mean who want to play a game that gives you no motivation to do anything..you need some means of a goal or something to play.

Hell yeh, I loved it so much I played through it 3 times. That has been a common complaint, from what is otherwise a bloody ripper of a game. Hopefully the next installement will be much longer.

Spot on about multiplayer, howmany times can you run around the same level shooting, getting shot and respawning? Booooooooring.

Not so much story, but single-player is the first thing I look for in a game.

Just an addition to the Forum. For those of you who played Bioshock did you like it. If so why. I personally liked it. Story was longer than most that have come out so far but still could have been longer.

Story first and foremost. Multiplayer is fun sometimes, but games now just try too hard to make a decent story and then tack on a lame multiplayer. Games like The Darkness would've been a LOT better I'm sure without the multiplayer. Bioshock is an excellent example of what it takes to make an extremely fun and addicting game, and makes it amazing without the multiplayer aspect. Multiplayer would've ruined Bioshock.

Of course the main campaign mode is more important, but if the game also has a good MP, then that games replay value rises IMO. Example: After I beat Bioshock, I'm going to trade it in because I won't feel like playing the game all over again...but if I could play some decent MP, then I would hang on to it.

id rather enjoy a great story before i have a good multiplayer. Stories you can enjoy, multiplayer (unless played with friends) can be ruined by dickheads.
