That all depends on how good the story and/or multiplayer is, IMO.

Multiplayer is just added fluff. Using Halo 3 as an example, Bungie said 75% of their resources went into Campaign and Story mode.

I may be a older gamer nearing 20 yesh, Then some younger ones who are growing up with mutliplayer being with all games. Why I brought Bioshock great stor;all it needs is a new game+ mode.

I like some mutilplayer but wish it would evolve higher up like a MMO style. Imagine a shooter where you go online in tourmental arenas then earn cash for some armor or guns then can sell them on a auction board as well. That way it gives you a sense of achivment to the person using the sniper rifle and using all there money to fund the bullets.

To be honest, when it comes to the 360 (Don't have mine yet) I'm only going online to download XBL arcade games and demos, I'm not going to be playing online with the 360 and at most with be very little, so story means the most to me.

Story > all.

You know, I said story, but some of the games lately attract me with neither story nor MP. I'm thinking The Bigs and Amped 3. I bought those because they're for the most part mindless fun. A game like BioShock is great for the brain and Burnout: Revenge has great MP, but lately, I've just wanted to relax.

I like both, normally I won't even play mutiplayer though until I finish the campaign even if I did buy the ame for mutiplayer (i.e Gears of War)

Singleplayer by far.
I love good stories, especially if I can be a part of them myself through playing a game.

I'll take a single player experience (or local multiplayer) over interweb multiplayer on console games every time.

Singleplayer. No question about it. Ninja Gaiden is still my favorite game of all time because the singleplayer is just that good. Not a single second in the singleplayer is annoying or boring. That's how it's suppose to be.

That really depends on the genre for me. RPG's are my favorite genre, so when buying an RPG, im expectinga long singleplayer game with a good storyline, since a vast majority of the console RPG's I buy (usually JRPGs) dont have any multiplayer anyway. I usually purchase shooters for multiplayer, with the rare exception of a few standout shooters that have great SP campaigns (Like Half Life, or Bioshock ,even though I havent played BS) So in the end I would opt for a better story and SP campaign than multiplayer (mainly because there are tons of MP centric games available)

That and multiplayer shooters (even really good ones) usually wont last me as long as a good coop RPG. I end up getting frustrated and never touching them again. Hopefully Team Fortress 2 can keep my attention for longer than previous shooters have.

For me, it's all about the story and the single player. Although I do enjoy a game that has some good co-op.

Replay value makes me buy games... I want to feel as if I'm getting the most out of my money. I've clocked probably near 200 hours in Oblivion, over 100 in Lumines Live and around 100 in Blue Dragon. All of these purchases were worth what I put into them. Halo 3's story mode is OK, but I'm sure I'll make the $60 out of the multiplayer. Some games, it's story, some it's MP.

I may be the only one, but it's the multiplayer for me. I'll usually atleast start a single player only because I feel that paying that much for a game, I should get my moneys worth. Hopefully I would get caught up in the story enough to finish the single player. I would get moneys worth plus some out of a games multiplayer if it's a good game.

If it's a driving/racing game then I'd look for multiplayer, otherwise it's all about the story.

First off I wouldn't classify yourself as an older gamer, cause I'm the same age and I sure as He\\ am not old. Anyway, I tend to favor the multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, I love a good campaign as much as everybody else but single player campaigns don't quench my desire to be better than other people. I don't know why. I've been gaming and playing competitive sports since before I can even remember. Competition is important to me. Not only that, it's fun.

By the way, I liked your idea about the more 'evolved' type of online experience. I enjoy arena types of FPS the best (like Quake, UT, etc) but I also really enjoy online games where you get a character and can build on it, like a PC MMORPG type of game. I think it will be a while before we see a good one of those on the 360.

you could say the exact same thing about single player, all you do is shot people in most games. because fps games dominate. nor do any of these games offer anything close to a decent story. although halo 3 had a good concept for a story, who ever directed the cutscenes had next to no idea how to pace or direct.

To be honest, when it comes to the 360 (Don't have mine yet) I'm only going online to download XBL arcade games and demos, I'm not going to be playing online with the 360 and at most with be very little, so story means the most to me.

you know nothing. when you find some interesting people to play with, multiplayer destorys single player.

True,im sure there are far older but it also be as a girl I am starting to get to the point where im starting to slowly subtract years off my age. Now I understand how my mother feels with celebrating her 8th ananual 30th birthday.

Though sadly I also doubt there will be a game like it. Though I think the mmo Huxley is trying to mix like quake style fps with a mmo. Though I would really like it to be non mmo styled dont even really need like stats. Sense your items will be your reward with what you spend your limited money on. Games like CoD4 I think will further that idea. Though imagine if you did it for all games to.

I would also love to see a game like Final Fantasy Tactics on the 360 but with mutiplayer where you level your characters online and can also sell your online items and trade officers and such.

It depends on the game. For Halo 3, it wasn't story, it was the multi player, it it had just the single player game, it wouldn't really have been worth it for me. But, for something like Mass Effect, it's story. You try and put multiplayer on that game, and it's going to mean huge changes to the single player, which isn't a good thing.

I prefer story though, because good stories in games seem to be left as a low priority to something flashy, like graphics or multiplayer.

I think everyone hits the age where they just want time to kinda... stop going so fast. I think that age gets lesser as generations go by. I try not to worry about things like that 'cause it won't do me any good. You gotta just look at the good things.. For example, you mentioned COD4. I've never been more psyched about a game's launch before. The beta was amazing and I am really anticipating the release of the full version of the game. I don't know hardly anything about the campaign though. I'm sure it will be fine, but my only concentration at the moment is on the multiplayer. I like the statistic tracking that it has and the rewards and perks for doing well/performing x amount of certain tasks (headshots, types of kills, etc.).

I might get The Orange Box, but I don't know much about it. I just need something to fill my time until November 5, because Halo 3 won't do. I haven't really kept up with much of the hype around The Orange Box, does it have any good single player? Or is it mostly a multiplayer experience?

i say story mostly because the multiplayer aspect can be turned off and on based on how people act online.

Story, just because of the fact that today there are no original stories in games, online is repetitive and the games that have online are typically the shooters, or your sport's/driving games, which get repetitive quickly. Now online co-op is fun but to have that you needa stpry mode. Games need original stories, because everything today is repetitive.
