This used to happen with a couple of my games, but it's become much worse with GTA. Some of my disks used to make droning noises as if the power died down for a second and was booting back up. It makes weird clicking noises before this happens most of the time. A lot of times that it does this, the 360 will become quiet and stay quiet for a few minutes until it has to load something up again. At that point, the noise level stays the same again. It's almost like there's something wrong with my disk drive, but for some reason it only happened occassionally and not as seriously as with GTA. With GTA, it seems to be happening every 10-15 seconds a good amount of the time and it makes my 360 go quiet for a couple minutes, then the whole process repeats.

I know this problem might seem vague because it's hard to explain without hearing it for yourself, but does anyone know what might be causing this? All of my other disks are good for the most part, although some of them have this problem once and awhile.

I'm not really sure what is going on there but for future use:

"Disk" refers to a hard disk or floppy diskette

"Disc" refers to a CD, DVD type disc.

Now that I think about it, I think my original PlayStation would make that noise right before it failed.

Thanks. It just concerns me that it does this and it makes it sound like my disk drive is crapping out. Is this something to worry about?

If I interpreted that correctly - my disc drive does that sometimes as well. It reads/spins normally (with a constant noise), then all of a sudden, it'll seem like the disc stops spinning and the noise will drop dramatically. After a little while, it'll become normal again. Mine did this mostly in CoD4, not sure why. However, with GTA 4, it's just constantly loud.

I wouldn't worry about this issue at all. As long as the drive is reading the discs, and it's not scratching them either - don't worry 'bout it.

Anyone else? I just want to make sure that my 360 or my disk are not being damaged, especially because it seems to happen so frequently with GTA and no other disks.

Mine does that sometimes too. Most of the time with games that have a lot of things loaded at once. I just thought it was reading ahead like CD players sometimes do and getting the info loaded so it could stop for a little while. I am not sure though. Nothing has happened to mine though.
