Step 1: Download Windows Media Player Software.

Step 2: Launch Windows Media Player.

On your Windows XP-based PC, launch Windows Media Player.

Step 3: Turn on media sharing.

Click the arrow below the Library tab, and then click Media Sharing . In the Media Sharing dialog box, select the Share my media to check box. In the list of devices below the Share my media to check box, select your Xbox 360 console. I follow these steps but when I reach the last step which is "In the list of devices below the Share my media to check box, select your Xbox 360 console", I don't see my xbox there like it's just blank.. every where I go to look at examples I see the xbox 360 picture in the box but for me its blank. I've been trying to fix this problem for hours asking for help. I thought I came close today with Zune but I didn't want to deal with that I want to use Windows media player instead because I use it often. Any tips.. someone please!! help me.. I need to know how to make my xbox appear in that Media Sharing box.. it seems easy but I've been having so much trouble. I don't get it my xbox is connected to my router which is connected with my modem so I can run internet and Xbox Live at the same time.. they are all connected but My xbox doesn't seem to see my pc and in this white box the 360 symbol isn't there someone help me out..

That's pretty odd, I've never had any problems like that... Is your Xbox and PC on the same network? And is your PC using a firewall? That could prevent the connection from happening.. Other than that, I'm not sure what could be the problem.
Sorry. :(

Sorry to state the obvious, but is your Xbox 360 on when you try to connect the devices? May seem simple, but you'd be surprised how many people overlook it. I guess you could also try disabling any network firewalls, if necessary.

I had a problem once with media showing up (although the Xbox 360 was listed). Once I redownloaded + reinstalled WMP 11, it worked perfectly fine. Not sure what the problem was, but it was fixed.

If you cant get the 360 to show up under 'shared devices', try downloading the Zune software. I brought a second 360 and couldnt get it to shop up as a shared device, but for whatever reason it showed up when I used Zune and thats how I was able to sync my laptop and 360 for streaming music.

Hey men, you know what. Media center its crap...!

You dont need it..! there is a program that does the same but better, and the good part about the program is that if you have a movie with a format that the xbox cant read.. this program will trascode it to one the xbox can read, so you can whatch DVX, Video rip + music a photos.

The program name is Tversity.

This is their pagehttp://tversity.com/

You can se how it works here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_ERtjAVFA0

trus me this is the best program to stream files to the xbox, its easy and fast....

Good luck... bey

I'm not sure if this will help much since it's harder if you have a firewall turned on, but try installing Windows Media Center instead.

@OP I had to wait awhile for my Xbox to show up. I know because it wasnt there then I switched my Monitor to HDMI mode played a bit of Gears 2 and came back and there it was just saying you might want to leave it there then come back in a bit if that doesnt work its gotta be a firewall do you have a way to configure your PC firewall to put the xbox IP in a trusted zone or something?

I'm actually having the same problem. Both are connected to the same network, I have both powered up and still nothing. The 360 doesn't recognize the PC and the PC doesn't recognize the 360. I am fully updated, have Windows Media Player 11 and enabled file sharing on the PC. Still no device is detected to file share with. Apparently, people whom are running vista can simply download the extender and they are ready to go. It's really quite frustrating to have this issue simply because I am running XP. I've heard that possibly it can be the firewall on your PC and/or your router that could block one from the other, but I'm not certain.

Disable the firewall and see if it's works. If so then turn the firewall back on and open the correct ports. Remember Windows has a firewall!
