My parents won't let me hook up the 360 to the HD tv because they think it will screw up the tv (lol) or "just because" (we've all heard that one right?). I've tried to have an intelligent conversation on why I can't hook it up but they always revert to "just because". Anyone have an idea to convince them?

I like the collateral idea. The thing is, they don't know how or why it would break, they just say that it will.

How about you get a job and get your own HDTV instead of calling your parents stupid because of the fact they probably spent a lot of their hard earned money on it. Plus most TV manuals tell you that video games could cause burn in, which is something that can't be fixed.

Well it might be, now this is just a shot it the dark, because HDTVs cost thousands of dollars for really good ones? And maybe they don't want you screwing around with it? Just a thought...

If you want some ammo for an argument, the 360 does go into a "sleep" type mode in which the image is dulled. To burn an image into a television would take hours upon hours of playing as well. However, I do tend to agree with everyone else who has posted here. I wouldn't want someone using my $1000+ TV if I thought they would cause it harm.

Just sneak your X360 to your Tv when your parents are out and you know they are gonna be gone for a while. Then simply take it back to where it was before they get home. Unless you have a ratty sister like me.

don't understand why most of you guys are like "it may cause harm blah blah blah" when about 90% of us on here play on HD. all your comments are mostly towards his age "get one your self" or "get a job". hes just a kid and calm down

You should just be glad that your "stupid parents" bought you a $400 game console and $60 games to play on it in the first place.

Also don't you dare call your parents "stupid". They worked damn hard to afford that TV, so maybe you should try the same and stop sponging off them.

Wow, im shocked noone mentioned this yet, but if your parents hdtv is LCD or PLASMA or even projection/rear projection ANYTHING other than a CRT then burn-in isn't possible, if your tv is a CRT then you might want to play it safe and not play on it.

But FYI, my parents HDtv is CRT and although i don't use it ive played ps2, xbox and even the 360 on it no problem.  And most peoples computer monitors are CRT (including mine) and ive been playing games on it for a while and no burn-in.  Aslong as you don't leave the damn game on while your eating dinner and forget about it you should be just fine.  The only problem of burnin is due to the UI which remains static the entire time, but I cant see anything shorter than 2hours of solid gameplay doing any damage.

I think the main reason your parents don't want you to play on the main TV is that they want to use it, too!  I'm sure they don't want you hoggin' the TV when they want to see TV too.  Just think, how long do you play a game straight on average?  Two, three hours a night?

At my job we have large LCD screen's that have static images on them and when you change the image you can still see the burn in from the last screen it was on. So I still believe LCD's can burn in .

Being a parent myself, as well as someone who never really "Grew Up" I can see both sides of the argument.

Yes, it is stupid that they think the 360 will in some way "damage" the TV - it won't.  On the other hand, it is their TV, and they are probably more interested in not having you monopolize it and/or accidentally damage it or anything else while playing an intense game of Gears of War or whatever.  Sounds to me like they just don't want you using it and the burn in damage comment is their best attempt at an excuse beyond "just because".

Unfortunately, until you're older or can work yourself and make enough money to buy your own HDtv, your kind of SoL.  I like the one kids idea about waiting till they're out of the house - sounds like something I would have pulled back in the day - only problem with that one is murphy's law almost demands that you will end up breaking the TV somehow anyway and then you're really SoL....  8)

Tell them that the machine was basically designed for HD gaming, so there is absolutley no chance in hell the TV will mess up. If anything you will finally see what the TV was meant for.
