whats a Apu?and thanks.[QUOTE="ArsenicA"]Apu told you that?... well hes BSing you...SHOEGOOlol i think by saying "Apu" he meant some foreigner, & i agree, its BS
I had my 360 plugged into a surge protector for two years and never had the RRoD or even any freezes.
I wouldn't believe everything they tell you. I just bought an elite and I wanted the licences for my premium marketplace downloads moved to my new elite. I phoned MS. At first they said it was impossible because the elite is a different version.
They said if I had another Premium it would be possible because it was the same version. I argued with him for over 10 minutes and told him he was talking a load of crap. Eventually he admitted he was lying and said he could move the licences to my elite. Shocking!
So yeah, don't believe everything they tell you. At one stage I said my Premium was out of warrenty because it was two years old, I actually said it more than once. He never corrected me and said they are covered for three years. Their customer service sucks.
anyone had rrod then do some trouble shooting and been fine?
SHOEGOO
I had RRoD then I turned it off and back on and it was fine. Played CoD4 for about 2 hours then it froze up. Restarted it and got RRoD. I then went through all the troubleshooting on the support website including the one that the customer service guy told me to do and it still didn't help. I have had my 360 since March of 2006 so it lasted just a couple of days short of a full 2 years.

I got RROD one night, turned it off for an hour and then turned it back on, its been about two months and my 360 works fine.

I think you could sue them for lying to you.
thanks if it was thereal rrod it wouldnt work again correct?SHOEGOONope, unless you decided to crack open the 360 and have a go at re-fusing it urself and clean it out, there are online manuals probably but it voids ur warranty, and should not be attempted unless u know what ur doing.

I was playing CoD4 and got the RROD. Went to Xbox.com and tried the troubleshooting. I ended up just unplugging everything, then plugging everything back in and waiting 2 hours before turning it back on. It has been a month since then. I also use a surge protector (and it only has 1 empty slot!)
i got the 3 red rings yesterday and was pissed(4th 360)anyway i called support and they asked the usaul trouble shooting things, then they asked my something i never heard if i had it pluged into a surge protector?i said yes and they said that could have been it,as it takes power away from the sytem?is this true?actually i have two cords with protctors plugged in togther,360 in the main one ,so i started it up again and it works now.then i plugged it into the direct wall no probs so far...should i still send it in?SHOEGOO
Actually a surge protector actually can prevent unstable voltages thus decreasing the risk of the RROD unless you have a very cheap or faulty SP
M$= fail
Actually, surge protectors/power strips can cause damage. If you go over the amp allowence on the protector you will have problems. Most surge protectors/power strips have 10-15 amps and if you have multiple appliances hooked up into the protector you can cause damage if you use too many amps. But I honestly doubt it caused you any damage, unless you have your xbox hooked up to the same power strip as a mini fridge or a desktop fan (things with motors use tons of amps)... Say if you just have like a Tv, xbox, dvd player, router, and little stuff like that you should not have any problems at all, though I would suggest not to overload it and give the strip like 3 or so amps to breathe with. Also try not to boot multiple appliances up at once as they all use alot more amps at start than they do after running for a bit.
Also you most likely do NOT have a surge protector but a power strip, its very common to mistake power strips for surge protectors as they look pretty much the same and even some manufacturers list them incorrectly but they are very different. Surge Protectors are great if you actually get one that protects you from storms and surge influxes from bad AC units, but dont rely on your little power strip to do anything..infact its most likely safer just to plug it into the wall then it is a regular power strip as power strips are known to cause noise to audio/video equipment and slow down networks. Power strips do nothing except add ports.
And a final note, most new appliances are practically immune to "common mode" surges including the xbox 360 and a surge protector is only usefull to protect it from lightning storms, but honestly, you should unplug your stuff during a storm anyways.
Ohh yea and never daisy chain.
