i was looking into picking one up but was wondering which one people use, which they prefer, whether paying £95 for a tritton ax 720 is worth it over the £40 turtle beaches. any opinions will be helpful

The £40 Turtle Beaches are 2.1 stereo, not surround sound.

I have X11s (2.1) and they're still damn good.

you get what you pay for mate.

that being said if you looking to be immersed into the game i would spend more money

if you want one just so you dont wake the family i would go with the 60$ sharkoons off amazon (prolly about 75 gbp? not sure the conversion rate today)

I tried to private message you but it didn't work. I've been considering the X11s for a while. I don't play competitively, but it would be cool to have a slight edge over my opponents. The other day on Black Ops some guy was raving out his X11s, he said you could hear footsteps great, and planting/defusing bombs across the map. Is this true? I'm not too worried about that, I mostly want them so while my wife is sleeping I can play without her waking up.

I researched a lot of headphones awhile ago, and I feel that the Tritton AX720's are the best value for performance and money.

The x41s are superb. I would give them a 9/10, just make sure you get rechargeable batteries because battery time is the only problem or complaint I have with mine.

I have the X11's and think they are Ace. The sound quality is excellent, especially for the price. I play mine through HDMI, you can get an adaptor with the Xbox I think.

Also, if you have a Plasma TV, be careful what wireless set you get as the older ones were interupted by the plasma signal, Im unsure of the new ones.

i think im gonna go with the x11s, i cant really afford to buy the surround sound wireless headsets. so now if i buy the x11s what else will i need to buy in order to make it work with hdmi? or can i just switch to component cables and not have to buy anything? ive tried researching stuff but it doesnt explain entirely

I have the X41s and I connect my 360 to my receiver with HDMI and then use an optical cable from the 360 to the X41 base station, so I can get audio out of both without switching anything. I'll also note that I have an older 360, so there is no optical output physically on the device, so I had to buy an adapter, but you should be fine with the slim, as it has built in optical (I think). Another cool thing, if it applies to you, is that I can also use the X41s on my PS3.

I currently use the Astro A40's and they are decent. Before them I used the AX720's and those were pretty good. The only reason I did not particularly like that headset was because there was this sort of hissing noise that always played through the speakers, which was irritating, but otherwise unnoticeable when game volume was being played through them. After using them for a year, the right ear speaker completely died so I could only hear out of the left ear. I didn't feel like getting them fixed, so I got the Astro's, mostly because I heard such great things about them. After owning the Astros for about 6 months, one of the screws in the headset came loose, and now the headset is sometimes weird to wear. Basically, the headband which rests on your head attaches to the two ear cups, via 4 screws (two attach to the left earcup, and two to the right). Well one popped out and I didn't know it happened, so now I can't find it. Anyways, the headband now pops out of it's socket at the location where there is no screw, which can be highly irritating. I wanted it fixed but you have to send in the entire headset and mixamp combo which I thought was stupid because I still wanted to use my mixamp with another set of headphones in the meantime. So I kept them. Shortly thereafter (maybe a month), the wire that runs past where the screw popped out became frayed and now the sound is acting up alternating between earcups whenever I move the cord connecting the headset to the mixamp. I'm going to send it in to get fixed now because it's pretty bad. Comparing the sound quality of the two, I would say they are rather similar actually. Both have their problems though.
