The HD cables on the 360 have a digital optical out, buy a cable and plug that into your receiver. Then configure the 360 for 5.1 Surround in the "System/Console/Audio Setup"..

I am not sure about your system dude, but I set up my logitech 5500 system last night in about 15 min including wiring. I used the optical cable as people suggested I bought on ebay. Plugged one end into the speaker receiver and the other into the xbox 360 cables that came with it. Then just change the settings for "audio" in the system setting blade to dolby digital 5.1 You might have to get a Y cable if your receiver is older. It plugs into the red/white cables of the xbox 360 and converts it to a single plug. You can either plug this single plug into your receiver, or you can convert this single plus into 3 seperate plugs using a 1-3 cable. However, I don't know your system so it is all speculation. but basically, you pretty much either have RCA cables (white/red) or the optical out to work with.

Optical out looks like a small square plug with an even smaller roundhole in the middle. Look for that

To get true surrond sound you need to use an optical cable, just using the red and white cables for audio will only give you stereo sound, which is only 2 channel audio.

Look at page 11 of your instruction manual, it talks about Optical Fiber cables. That's Digital Optical..so your receiver does have it..

Best Buy, Radioshack, Circuit City, pretty much any electronics store should carry them.

I'm using HDMI audio/video. Is it possible to use HDMI Video and Digital optical audio? Should I just not plug in the componet cables?

If you are using anHDMI cable then you don't need to plug in either the component cable or any type of audio cable. HDMI isbest because it is a digital Audio and Video cable combined.

The HDMI is plugged into the tv... so we don't get surround sound. What other way is there to do it? I don't think the receiver has HDMI video. My roomate has a PS3, it has the HDMI and Digital Audio cable seperate and built on to the console...atleast sony got something right.
