I am considering getting my son the new model 360 (black w/ 250 Gb hd), and I would take his old one (origional release model w/ 20 Gb hd).

Basically, what's the easiest way to transfer all his data from the old system to the newer one? Also, could I just get a 4 Gb system and pop-in a 500 Gb hd?

The data transfer kit is the easiest and most reliable way to transfer data. You can do it via a USB stick but I've heard of it going wrong more than it goes right.
Also you can upgrade the 4GB to the 250GB hard drive, but you have to use the official Microsoft ones. You can't put any hard drive in there.
