Im not much of a gamer. I own about 4 games and a few Demos. This is partially because I never have a ride to the store, and because Im the only one in my family who will buy games. But one thing Id Like to see in the next generation of games are ones which require thinking, and acting smart. Im talking about games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, GRAW 2 and Call of Duty 4. Sure: great graphics, good stories and all the gloss you'd ever want. But I think that developers need t ostep up into the real world now. Take a look at Somalia in 1993, the Mission in Mogadishu. A Few chalks of Rangers against 1000's of Somali's. Thats where thinking is required. So al you deigners out there, think about how stupid you've made your AI in the past. And Make it real.

While I've never played it, check out Rainbow Six: Vegas. It sounds like what you're looking for.

Rainbow Six Vegas has some really cool room entry mechanics. My only problem was that you were still relegated to a 3 man element... and that's it. I'd like them to get back to their original vision with the first Rainbow Six and Eagle Watch with the pre-planning stage. It'd be awesome to have some classic situations like the Princes Gate Assault in '80 or ...jeez... TWA flight 847 in '85. Throw you in and see how you'd handle those landmark confrontations.

I'd also love to see a new Full Spectrum Warrior. I loved how they ripped the trigger finger away from the player to focus on things like leadership, smart movement and being mindful of your teams' lines of fire.

The problem is that they tread dangerously away from being fun. That's the crux of the the dilemma in making tactical shooters. Fun vs realism.

about the AI thing, a developer, if they wanted to, could easily make a VERY challenging game, but since they want to make profit so much they tend to make games easier nowadays, not to say it's easy in every game, but there are some pretty bad examples of AI in some games. but that is why most games have difficulty levels.
